2006 Interlagos Blue Metallic M3 Detail

Thought I'd share some pix from a 16 hour detail I did yesterday. The car was actually in pretty good condition. There were just a few damaged areas and the overall look was improved through polishing. I used Swirl, Amigo, and Epic.

Not a great Before pic

16 hours later--an all nighter--from 4PM to 6:45AM

Wow. Great work. I wish you could wave a magic wand and instantly detail my filthy car.

I'm sure Richard can wave a wand, but in the world of detailing, nothing is instant

Very nice! I love how it doesn't look purple anymore.

Everybody - take the time to click the link over to showcardetailing.com in the first post. Richard's attention to detail is extraordinary, right down to his headwear!

Before and after pics are always nice, but shiny reflections don't begin to tell the story of "real" detailing. Almost makes me wish I had more than one car (and a garage...) so I could practice more often.

The funny thing is the Interlagos Blue is a purple/blue metallic depending on the light. The first pix were taken when it was sunset. The After pix were taken with almost no sun--just tons of cloud cover. I think if I had more direct sunlight, the purple would have been more apparent.

Sure, as long as it's not snowing, lol. =P

Yeah, those wheels were kind of a pain to clean--a little too small to get my hand between to clean the brake dust off--ended up just using a gloved hand with Hydro and ran my fingers over each "vane" to clean them up. But they look great.

Nice work, and I always enjoy your write-ups. I hope you charged a premium for the overnight work!

Was that jacked up pickup in the background waiting for your detailing???

Haha the overnight work was actually my fault. The customer gave me 1-1/2 days to work on it, but my scheduling at the shop, even with my two new employees has made things very tight, so doing an all nighter was the only choice.

The pickup is actually for sale--it belongs to one of the customers of OC Rod N Customs whom I rent space from and work with. =)

Thanks for the nice comments.

Thanks! It's his twin! Seriously--it's for sale--belongs to a customer, he left it at the shop for people to see it.

Suggest that it may help attract buyers if it were nicely detailed...

That M3 with the Competition Package is hot in Interlagos Blue. I wanted one when I got my M, but there were none left that I could get my hands on in late-2006, the dealers only had convertibles left. If I had to "settle" for a drop top, I'd rather (and did) go for a MZ4, which has the same powerplant with a much better chassis for a soft-top.

Absolutely. Interior is treated like the exterior. Found some sticky drippings on various parts--owner had no idea. My headlight came in handy vacuuming all parts of the car that it hard to see with black carpet. Vents are cleaned with qtips and swaps. Anything that is touched is given a thorough cleaning--armrests, shifter lever, etc..

The interior is Cinnamon--a really nice complementary leather--kind of a burnt orange color.

Engine is fully detailed as well.

Air is used to blast out any dust or polishing dust from the cracks if they managed to get past the taping. Everything is wiped down. The owner appreciated that because his last detailer didn't tape and just polished over everything, including that perforated grill on the hood. The side vent grills are chrome and had water spots, so they were cleaned with a qtip. Then blasted with air to remove the dust. Then waxed with Hydro.

Thanks for all the nice comments everybody!

I figured that you did, but I just never see you mention it. Of course, I do soccer mom vans mostly and end up spending alot of time in there because that gets the most notice with the customer. No matter that I clayed, and used 2 polishes and a deep gloss wax, they car about how clean the carpets look and the matte finish on the dash! I always wonder what detailers do on the inside becuase of that.

I yearn for a sports car

This makes a certain amount of sense as the average driver spends loads more time in the car than oggling the outside. I can't imagine what the interior in your average minivan looks like. *shudder*
