is there one thread i absolutely need to read?
is there one thread i absolutely need to read?
i bought my car last year and put on wax by hand. for various reasons i have neglected my cars finish and it has reached a boiling point for me. i'm buying a PC and practicing on my old rat rod before i move to the mini but i need to know...
Is there one magical thread here where i can hear the differences between Zaino and Prima care product?
Is there one Magical thread that out lines the proper way to do all of the touch ups?
i need to remove mostly swirl marks but a few surface scratches as well. does anyone care to way in on my Zaino vs Prima question?
don't tell me how one is great i really only want to hear various problems you've had personally and one way or the other how they were resolved.

Short answer, no. But there is lots of good advice in many of the threads on this forum
I like Zaino myself as a wax/sealant. I tend to use a variety of brands of detailing products depending on their use.

This is a really good thread about using Prima products that, IMO, should be stickied:

There are many reasons to choose one system over another. There is no magical answer or perfect solution. Use what you like to use and use it often.
Zaino is a great product for people working strictly by hand. It teaches you the importance of claybar and quick detailers. It isn't a good system for teaching people that what Z5 does is conceal defects by filling them in and masking them. I once had a customer that asked me to remove his very light swirls that he couldn't get out by hand. I asked what system he was using and he said Zaino. I said ohhhh, so you think your very light swirls should be a cinch for me to get out and shouldn't take much time right cause I only need to knock out those light ones? He completely neglected the fact that the swirls were much deeper and couldn't be concealed entirely with Z5, and thus we were seeing those remnants. For me to "knock out those swirls", I'm going to have to remove the concealer and polish out the paint entirely, and then he can use his Zaino again until the swirls get so bad that they need to be polished once again.
As long as you realize what your product is doing, and you're making your product selection based on the fact that you desire either a concealer or paint leveler system then all is good! You can't go wrong.
Another thing newbies need to understand is that polishing is about PAINT REMOVAL. You're not polishing if you're adding paint. So when you get a defect like a rock chip or a deep scratch, you might be able to improve it, but you can't "fix" it by polishing.

Touchups are system dependent. We can show you how to use factory touch up with a variety of applicators but the results will vary. I don't think it would be beneficial if I showed the wetsanding steps I did when doing this either as it might cause others to try it, only to sand through their paint causing major damage. There are many products on the market designed to get rid of the blob, or prevent the blobs in the first place, etc... So the answer is no, there is no "simple" or magical thread showing you how to do this.
If you want to learn how to polish your paint, my DVD is probably the best tool out there.

I have it and it's been a great help!
I used Klasse on my bimmer, and loved it. Rocinante will be getting it soon. Here's my favorite detailing thread and some Klasse talk.

this has all been great. does anyone have a good process for washing the car. i use a two bucket method but i guess I'm unsure of the process with claying. i wash top to bottom using the two buckets, i have a separate cloth/scrubber for tires and rims. then i clay using the meg's kit. should i wash again before i wax. suggestions?

i think i'm going to go with the Prima products because they are so loved here. also i had heard that the Zaino products are just sealers/concealers. i'm hoping to actually lift out the imperfections and start fresh. i will be putting in some touch up paint on large rock chips and then making several passes with a PC to level it out. any suggestions?
