Cleaning The Clear Bra
Cleaning The Clear Bra
I just bought an '05 MCS, which has a clear bra on the bonnet, the bumper and the side view mirrors. I believe this was a dealer or factory add-on (i.e., not done by the previous owner).
Are there any special considerations when cleaning this? Are there solvents I should avoid using on the vinyl, such as a good wax?
The car is a Chili Red w/ White bonnet stripes and a white roof.

Clear bras should be treated pretty much the same as your paint. That is, wash them with mild carwash shampoo, buff and polish with mild abrasives when needed, and feel free to wax.
The only precaution I take is to make sure I tape the edge of the clear bra so as not to go against the edge with my R/O buffer.
And the only extra care I take is to use a thin microfiber towel along the edge of the bra periodically to remove my QD wax that builds up.

QD= Quick Detailer or Quick Detail Spray
(btw, there are no stupid questions, especially about all these acronyms!)
What's QD?
QD typically contains light cleaners, lubricants and some kind of polymer.
The cleaners are usually for helping to lift off light dust or other invaders (ie, bird droppings or water spots).
The lubricants are to help make the above a safer process (read: reduce the risk of scratching).
The polymer(s) are usually to add a boost of shine and/or slickness and some very short-term protection (typically ~1 week).
A very few QD's are carnauba wax based, in addition to the polymer(s). In these cases though, the amount of carnauba wax is usually very small in order to maintain the water-like consistency and thus the ease of spraying and wiping.
To use QD, you usually just spritz on a clean surface (or mostly clean- unless you're cleaning of bird droppings) and wipe off with a plush-style microfiber (MF) cloth.

I find it very tough, long lasting, but I'm not to keen on using it on the body of my MINI. Not sure why, could be because it smells bad

Nice job, ChiliPepperJet.
Oh, I don't know about that - seems to work out OK for me most of the time...
