Getting ready for a detail tomorrow, first one since the summer, realizing I left myself a mess to come home to (home from college). Love seeing pads full of polish, especially my black pad white with crusty Epic (should I charge for the time used to take this out?!?! ) Plan on watching OG's dvd again tonight and getting to work early in the morning! More to come tomorrow.

Yesterday's detail was interesting to say the least. I got to the house and realized I had left my water-blade, Clarity, and window cloth at home. Good start. To make matters worse, once I had cleaned two wheels of brake dust, I dropped my cleaner bottle. 30* degrees yesterday, and the bottle just shattered. Not many pictures, but thought I would share anyway.

Process was:
Wash with Dawn (you can tell there was some wax on there)
Clay the front end
Tape
Polish with Amigo (so nice)
Follow with a coat of Epic
Interior with Nero
Black Wow on the trim below the windshield, and just inside the door
Slick to clean the windows (works well)
P21s on the exhaust (worked beyond my expectations

Fun car to work on, amazing exhaust note.

Nice work, Brendan!

Which P21S did you use on the exhaust?

Good idea using Slick on the windows when you discovered you forgot your Clarity. Slick is a great backup for glass cleaning (and some people use it as their exclusive glass cleaner over Clarity!).

I think it was the P21s all surface restorer. Worked really really well.

Nice work. That car looks like it has some fun curves to detail.
Care to give us some background on the photo between the headlight and the Turbo logo photos?

Those are some sweet wheels. And I'm pretty picky about wheels.

Haha. Well when cleaning the wheels, 3 down one to go. Its about 30 degrees out, I drop my cleaner bottle, and it shatters... no more cleaner and one wheel to go.

Oooh I just found this thread. Nice job Brendan. OMG, I don't envy you at all. The coldest I've detailed any car is 42 degrees and that was cold enough to make polishing very difficult, not to mention trying to finish it off with wax. The only thing I didn't see in your photos is what you used for lighting?? It's crucial to be able to see the finish in it's worst condition so you can choose the proper pad and chemicals to make it looks it's best! I've recently started using LED flashlights for this. One of the best tools, and funniest things to see is this "jock strap" on my head light. Low heat, long lasting, and bright enough to show swirls even in daylight. I still use other lighting tools, but this works for anywhere you can get your head over the paint--not very useful on the roof of a car though where you can't position yourself high enough to get a reflection off the paint.

I don't detail below 45 anymore because of that. That was a frustrating evening of polishing and buffing. I had another big job lined up before winter, but the bottom fell out and it hasn't been above 40 since. I told them there is no way I will do it because it would take twice as long and would not look as good; it will have to wait till spring. At least they are still lined up and ready for me to do it.

Thats not cold, no hat or gloves
This is cold

I will wash to just below freezing, Hydro is still Ok, but QD, waxes, and the like just don't want to work right below 40F.

Hey all. Bored and at home in the rain. Thought I would let everyone know that the picture with the shattered bottle has a wash mitt next to it. I can assure you, THIS IS NOT MY LAMBSWOOL. Haha. I only use that old junky one for wheel wells and cleaning tires. Summertime and I'm detailing **** right now.

Peace,
Brendan
