10 Hours of Detailing

Yep. I bit the bullet on Saturday, and decided to do a thorough detailing. Here's the story of my hodge podge of products:

1. Washed with P21S. Almost out of P21S, will probably try something more concentrated and less expensive next time.

2. Clayed with Sonus and Clay Magic lubricant. I noticed that Sonus clay is said to have been developed for people who clay all the time, which explains why it isn't as effective for a 1x or 2x per year person like me.

3. PC with Sonus Swirlbuster pad and Prima Finish. 2 passes on the roof and bonnet, one pass elsewhere. I figured this pad/polish combo would do the trick on what I thought were light swirls. I definite improvement, but it turns out not to have been enough. Oh well, the swirls will still be there for me to get 'em next time.

4. PC with Prima black pad and Klasse AIO. This was a dream combo. It went on quickly and effortlessly. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said when it comes to removing AIO, of course. Ugh.

5. Klasse SG. Thin coat applied by hand with microfiber applicator pad. Removed with PC and microfiber bonnet after it sat for 30 minutes.

6. Slick. Final pass to make sure all the SG was removed.

I still have some work to do, like using ScratchX to go after the paint behind the door handles and under/around the rear vents.

It was quite an ordeal, but it was worth it to know that my finish is well protected for several months. Since my car lives outside, protection is important. In fact my car was dirty the next morning from the dew and general dust. C'est la vie...

A thread title like that... A step-by-step explanation of the process... and not a single cotton-pickin' pic ?!?!

Ah, that bee... such a tease. :impatient

Sorry to break the news to you all, but pictures lie!

After 10 hours I parked my car back at home, admired the mirror-like reflection in my black roof, and thought about getting the camera...until I walked two steps to the left and saw almost the exact same reflection in the kinda dusty roof of my neighbor's Hyundai Accent.

So here's a shiny picture from my Flickr gallery. Please pretend I took it on Saturday evening instead of six months ago.

Hmm...that pic is from 6 months ago so I think the credit might go to Sonus Acrylic Spritz as the last touch. I'm not sure if I had started using Slick at that point.
