Read 'em and weep (Vanity Tags)

OK folks. The new tags are in. And after hours and days of trying to come up with a combination of letters, numbers, weird abreviations, and other stuff to try to fit something into 7 letters and a space... I came up with...

Hard to believe that this wasn't taken.

Friends and family are always asking are you/we taking/bringing "The MINI" so I felt like this tag was amusing.

It's also a inside joke. Because I'm known to old friends as "THE Mark Matarella". Yes, there's a story behind that, a few actually but I'm to lazy to type them.

Hahaha - I like it... of course I'm also pretty much "The Haemish Edgerton", because I seriously doubt you'll ever find another person with my name on the whole planet (particularly since my spelling of Haemish is not traditional!).

Nice choice, Mark.

No, but you can type in a combination on the DMV web site to see if it's available. So those are the product of either my 'fertile imagination' or 'twisted mind' as you like. Those were all things I came up with and checked on the site.

Thanks, but just thought maybe somebody might want one. Since I already found they were available and once I had my first choice safely in hand...

Oh, and for those in VA who don't know personalized tags are only $10 a year in VA.

Check for yourself... VA DMV License Plate Purchase

Unfortunately while they seem to have zillions of plate types available, antique isn't one of them.

You can personalize the yellow-background Virginia Antique plates - you just can't do it on-line:

http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/exec/veh...fo.asp?idnm=AQ

I don't think you can personalize the black-background antique plates, though.

ahh thanks! I think the black background w/ white lettering plates look much better. I'll more than likely end up going with those! Now I look forward to the Alexandria DMV off of Telegraph (Mill) and 495.. the wait last time was 2+ hours and the line just for a number was out the door!!!

ClassicFreq -

Another option is to buy vintage Virginia plates for your car from the actual year that your car is titled. Here are some 1973 plates on eBay:

I think they look better than the new "antique" black-background plates, but not as good as the vintage black plates:

(On the older Virginia plates, the even-numbered years got black backgrounds and white letters, while the odd-numbered years got white backgrounds and black letters.) I currently have the black-background vintage plates on my 1972 Dodge Charger and 1972 Mercedes 250.

If you get vintage plates, you can either register the car like a normal car (no restrictions as to usage), or as an "antique" car (with the normal restrictions that go along with that).

That's a problem with a lot of those tags. Cop stops you, there's always potential for a warning. Tag says something like 'FAST CAR' and you get the note that says GIVE $$$!

When I lived in Indiana I had HAULNAS on a Corvette for seven years and in 91 it was taken away as not being appropiate. After moving to Ga. I applied for it there and was told I could get it. After paying the fee I received a letter from the BMV saying no go. Bummer!!!

Nice grab on the plate.. my guess is who ever had it orginially back in 2002 sold there car which made it available again. (guessing BMW had it) When I bought my First MINI. only 30 mins after the doors open on the Launch. I tried for The MINI , DA MINI , MY MINI, JEALOUS, even replaced the I's with 1's. all were a no go. I ended up with SPR COOP. Then shortly after destroying that car . with the next MINI I got MOTOV8N. Which I got the Idea from a Moving company that had the Plate MOTOV8R.

Sorry to re-hijack..

freq, you should try going in there sometime in the mid-morning, 10:00-ish. You'll walk right in and out.

So, i finally registred my car in VA today and i am patiently awaiting my new custom plates. After 4 year of waiting, i finally got to register: 4CE F3D

i couldnt believe it was not taken in virginia!!! In ohio this plate was always taken as well as every other variation you could think of.

Oh yeah if anyone is interested, the plate : NOT BIG is still available. that was going to be my second choice.
