Aerokit: body shop and MINI of Sterling, recommendations?

Ok, not sure if i posted this already, but my car got hit on the street and it needs a new front bumper as well as grilles, and a ding pounded out of the hood. OOPS!

anyways the estimate from my insurance was for about 1600 bucks, and i have a 500 deductable, so i will be getting about 1100 from the insurance and i have to pick up the rest of the bill.

I have been considering getting the aero kit, but wanted to get opinions on who would be best to handle its installation. I dont think my insurance cares what goes back on the car, and since it is a factory bumper cover all is well.

Anyways do DCMM members get a discount at mini of sterling? Anyone have an indication of how much a aerokit factory painted and installed at sterling would cost??

i would like to keep it under 2k at all possible.

any opinions or info would be greatly appreciated. best case is getting a prepainted one factory direct and having it installed at a dealer then everything would be peachy keen and look good.

DCMM members usually get a 10% discount on parts and labor... but right now (for both January & February) they actually are giving 15% on both... so you should definitely call and ask them for a quote.

All three of the DC area dealerships give a 10% DCMM discount on parts, but not necessarily on labor. Only MoS has the temporary 15% discount.

Hey, check with Virginia Law also, I don't think your insurance company can dictate where you get the work done. In other words, if you want the dealership to do it using all OEM parts and paint, that's your choice, you just pay the deductible. Don't let them lowball you on the estimate or push you towards a "bargain basement" shop.

defy, I was pricing a number of things with MoS a couple weeks ago, and they quoted me $3k before the 15% discount for the full Aero kit. That was a rough estimate though, because you have to figure parts and the paint matching, etc.

Good luck!

nice thanks. i do believe that they are required to pay the full bill from ANY body shop that i take the car to, but since i am going to try to get the aero kit as a replacement, i think that may be a little different.

The insurance company should be sending you the check for +/-$1100 for you to do with what you wish. (I do believe)

When my bumper was damaged, I got the Aero kit and installed it myself. Aero Bumper alone versus stock bumper alone is nearly the same price anyhow.

$1600 really doesn't cover much at all given the rates in the DC area. I would strongly urge you to talk to Wagon Works, since they will work with insurance companies. When my Z3 coupe got run over by an SUV (evil things those SUVs) the other guys insurance (Gieco) initially offered me $1200. The actual bill was closer to $4200, and they had to pay all of it! You don't want to take a check and walk away, you want to work with the body shop and your insurance through the whole repair process to get the true amount paid. As to switching out parts, well, if you pay the difference between the regular bumper and the aero, that should not be a problem... I did it with my Z3 roadster several years ago.

$1600 will pay for the aero kit, painted, from Morristown Mini though. Then just a little elbow grease for self mounting.
