[Sat, August 12th] MINIs by the Bay III
RSVP's will close Thursday night, say midnight. I've got a preliminary reservation set up now, and can tweak it by a FEW people still.
I'd also ask those who have RSVP'd that they are coming to let me know if that changes. Both to five them a accurate count and to take care of any wait list if we end up with one!
Route: Here's a link to trip directions and maps. The directions are in Excel and the maps in Word. I'll have printed copies for everyone at the start. But if you want to preview or miss the start...
Everybodys up for some runs! Paul was kind enough to give me his GPS files for this run a while back. So lets give this another go. We can do it again when he gets back, October is too far off to wait till then! Thanks again to Paul for creating this, and we'll all practice it so we can do it perfectly when he returns!
I'm going to copy and swipe lot's of his post from the last run...
When: Saturday, August 12h. We will meet at about 8 - 8:30ish AM for a prompt 9:00 AM departure time.
Where: We will gather at the McDonald's across the street from the Westfield Shopping Plaza in Annapolis, MD. Directions below.
Bring: A full tank of gas, an appetite, money for food ($20 should more than cover the meal), and your FRS or GMRS handheld radio (tuned to channel 7, subchannel 21)!
RSVP: Please RSVP via a PM. You can RSVP in the thread too so everyone knows your coming, but it's eaisier for me to accurately track em via PM.
Event Fee: No fee for DCMM members. $5 fee per car for non-DCMM members. Cash or check can be brought to the event.
Questions? PM me or ask in this thread!
Directions to McDonalds:
From Virginia and other areas around the DC Beltway: Make your way to Route 50 and head east towards Annapolis. Leave Route 50 at Exit 23. Keep to the right on the exit ramp to merge onto Route 450 / Defense Hwy. Continue straight through 2 lights (road becomes 178 / Generals Hwy after second light). McDonald's will be on your left. (It's across the street from the Westfield Shopping Plaza (aka Annapolis Mall) facing Border's.)
From points around Annapolis: Head west on Route 50. Leave Route 50 at exit 23B. At the end of the exit ramp, make a left at the light onto Route 450 / Defense Hwy. Go straight through the next light (road becomes 178 Generals Hwy.). McDonald's will be on your left. (It's across the street from the Westfield Shopping Plaza (aka Annapolis Mall) facing Border's.)
From other areas: Use your GPS or favorite online mapping program and head to address:
McDonald's
2130 Generals Hwy
Annapolis, MD 21401
(A quick note: If you look up this address on McDonald's website, it shows it at an incorrect location! But if you plug it into Google Maps, Mapquest, or something similar, it will plot it right and give you correct directions.)
Now for the details. MINIs by the Bay III is rerun of Pauls run back in April hopefully minus the rain. I'll be doing a pre run of it in the next week or so. I missed the spring one and want to be familiar with it beyond just counting on the GPS.
Starting around greater Annapolis it takes in some fantastic backroads south, eventually ending up by the Chesapeake Bay for lunch at about 11 AM. The restaurant will likely again be Smokey Joe's Grill at the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa (website) (menu). Returning we will now stay to the east of the Patuxent River and retrurn back up north through another great set of twisties, ending by where route 3 / 301 and route 50 intersect. We will then stop at a local establishment (TBD). Anyone got info on what was done last time?
PM me if there's any problems / corrections, or make a post in the thread! And as always, the most up-to-date information will always be reflected in this top post!

Put us on the maybe to probably not list. We are moving in on the 14th so that means the few days before (12th included!) we will be painting our new place. If by chance we are DONE painting (somehow I really think not) we would be able to go. But as for now, we aren't able to go.
We're also a maybe... gotta check the calendar!
Mark/Kim,
Ya gotta get some bonnet stripes and logos on the Civic.. going counterfeit is sweet!

If I can take a conversion van on the Dragon, then Kim can take a Civic on the Bay run!
Of course if she want's, I'm sure there are many of us who'd be willing to give her a ride too.

Shouldn't this really be MINIs by the Bay 2.5?
Last time we attempted the run we only got halfway through before it was called on account of rain.

I hope that it's drier this time around!
Some notes:
- I don't know what the weather has been like up there lately, but if it's been rainy, be sure to have someone check out the entire route beforehand. There's a lot of roads that go through flood zones on the route!
- Be sure to give Smokey Joe's a ballpark head count a good week or so out, and give them another call the day or so before the run with an as-accurate-as-possible count. I was mildly chided by the manager for bringing about 10 people or so more than I initially told them. Other than that though, they said that they would be happy to have us back!
- I never really came up with a good ending stop. My plan was originally that if it was sunny, to go to Chik-Fil-A for some pie/ice cream/etc. to eat outside. They get extremely crowded, but they have a very large dirt overflow parking lot in the back of the restaurant that could accommodate parking, and if we all ate/chatted outside, it wouldn't be a big deal. But if it was raining, my plan was to go to (for lack of anywhere else).... wait for it... McDonald's!
I wish that there was somewhere else close by, but I really couldn't find anywhere. Hopefully someone could come up with a better idea!
Good luck, and if there's any questions or concerns, feel free to ask!

I'm definitely interested and I'll try to make it... I'm just not sure yet if work will interfere. (I might have a network outage on the night before).
The first MBTB was awesome... I missed the second one though (although it doesn't sound like I missed much if it was called early).
I have to show off Mr. OEM's new shoes!

I am a maybe - it depends on how my hand feels. I drove james to the mertro today (even though I was not supposed to) and it was hard. So it depends on how I heal.
I did the first part of the run with Paul! the day after the called one and it nice and sunny and a lot of fun!
