[Sun, July 23] Party - Cookout & Potluck

Mark's 2nd Annual MINI Cookout
Sun July 23rd 12 noon until...
3453 Little Hunting Creek Dr., Alexandria VA (about a mile from Mt Vernon)
Phone 703 704-5112

I am having the "great 2nd annual" cookout for all my friends and friends soon to be that drive MINI's. I encourage new members and those waiting for their cars to come too!

No rain date needed as I've got a nice covered porch and rec room so we need not fear the weather. Plenty of room to spread out.

The sway bar installs sound like they've fallen through. Oh, and bring your pool cues. Plus we'll have MINI Video and slide shows running. I should have my collection of MINI commercials running on one set.

I'll be doing burgers, dogs, and brats on the grill and will have bread/rolls and condiments. I'll have soda and iced tea. I'll ask folks to bring a side dish and if you want something stonger to drink to BYOB.

I''ll edit this post with RSVP's and what people are bringing if known. Please reply here or PM/email me so I can get a approximate head count so I have some idea on how much shopping to do!

Directions and maps are at http://www.matarella.com/mark/tomarks.htm

Sounds like fun. Dessert? I can bring a killer "near home-made" chocolate cake.

I'll be there with something. Still not sure, maybe I'll do the apple thing, maybe the pineapple thing. It's a wee bit too far of a drive to do the ice cream thing as it would probably be all melty by the time I got down there.

Great Matt...

Sway bar folks, if you want you can come over in the morning to do your sway bars or at least get a head start so you don't miss socializing time when the hoards come. Although if you're doing that the party might gravitate to the garage anyway? Your call.

It's really a one car garage. (Wide for a 1 car, makes it easy to work) Although if ones pulled in far the second could be backed partway in and be out of the elements. Also remember I've got one jack and one set of stands. If you guys want to work at the same time we need a volunteer to bring another jack and stand set.

My thought was to get there early..I dont want to miss out on socializing either. It will be up to Stacey and Jay though, since my new sway bar is still in their MCS.

I'll leave it to you, Stacey, and Jay to figure out timing. Suffice it to say if y'all want to come in the a.m. to do or at least get a head start you'll be welcome, as I bet would be any helpers with sway bar install expertise reading this...

I would love to come! I have only attended one DCMM event...everyone I met seemed so nice! This sounds like a good time to whip up the famous White Trash Casserole!

Don't worry Mark, I'm sure the party will be fluid. You have such a nice space for entertaining to begin with....and now you've added your garage.

Party in the garage! He He. Yup. Actually, for a few months down the road I've got another project on the back burner waiting. The product of that will make a fine reason for some DCMM'ers to come by...

Welcome Laura! Come on down!

Yup Matt. I've been researching and deciding how and where to fit it. I settled on putting one in my garage. Some folks build em so they be hoisted to the ceiling when not in use. I'm not crazy about parking MINI under that much 'hanging wood'. So I'm thinking of a wall hugging track down one side of the garage with a wider area in the back of the garage. There's enough room to do that and not cramp the car. I'll probably put a 'lid' on most it along the wall that is hinged on the back and covers it to make a long work surface when it's not in use.

I want one end larger and flared for a large deeply banked turn reminiscent of the commecial tracks I ran on as a kid. There are a few around but they typically don't stay in business long.

The main long narrow section would look something like this but even shallower front to back, and the larger end to include one deep bank like this track.
