VA Window Tint Suggestions
Hey all -
The wife is looking to get her windows tinted. We are in Fairfax Va, and I wonder if anyone can suggest a reputable shop to get the job done. If they do a good job, I may have do the same for ol' coopie
Thanks for the help!

He installed my radio, but while I was there, I saw tints going on too. His shop was very busy, indicating to me that he must be ok. At least no complaints on the radio install.

I second HPRCustoms in MD if you want some custom work done... They're the ones that put the dual-tint logos on for me... My first mod too!

Wagnbat - That is some VERY nice work on the batmini, BTW. Thanks for the help. If anyone knows of such a quality shop in NOVA I would love to hear about it. Otherwise, I may just make the trek up to HPRCustoms.

I've used LA Tint in Manassas several times, and they always do a terrific job. Other car friends use them as well.
On rt. 28 past Manassas Park, on the right, across from the old Wrights Buick, now Browns' Hyundai.

LA Tint too.
I used LA tint on Rt 1 in Alexandria. He cut the price heavily cause the car was so small
I asked if he would be able to do the back window in the convert since it's tight around the roll bars. He took a look and said no prob. Very happy.
Had Carlos? at Solar Solutions (Where we had our tint / pulley / graphics party) I think it was do the van, also a great job.

While we are on the subject of tint... my stripes are beginning to look bad. they have shrunk a tiny a bit and there are little tears in two places. i would like to get them replaced but could use y'all's advice on this matter. what is the cost for something like this?
I found a place to get my car tinted that is really close to where I work. Has anyone used "Roadblock" before? http://www.rdblockva.com

If someone uses the LA Tint on Rt. 28 in Manassas let me know how it goes and the cost, Please. I've been recently thinking bout getting tints. I can't decide if I want 50 all around or 50 in front and 35 in back. I think I would like them all to look the same shade. What yall think?

Yes, you can still see into the car with 35% under most conditions. I did the 50% all around. I had the super dark limo stuff many many years ago on a Subaru. I'll have to check the paperwork at home. I don't recall if it's the ceramic or the metallic. It's NOT the cheap dyed stuff that turns purple.

I just got back from Solar Solutions who instaled my tint. Carlos did it and he did a great job. I dropped my car car off in the morning and walked to Silver Diner on Rte 1 to have some breakfast and when i returned in less than an hour, he was standing in front of his shop telling me he had finished. The only problem I had was that I wanted a sun blocker strip in the front window, but what I was looking for was a strip which faded to make it look like more natural. A complete dark strip would make it look too cheesy. So i told him not to install it. Everything else was perfect. All in all, Carlos was a complete professional who had knowledge on how to tint a MINI cooper. And he only charged me $90 for the tint. I only got 35% tint (the legal limit) since I have had a bad experience in the past with MD state police. If you want a quick neat (very neat job, I can't see the seams) job give him a call and set up an appt. He also installs pulley systems as well.

here is the reference. http://www.berwynheightspd.com/tinted%20windows.htm
"The problem here is that many people purchase a window tint film that is rated at 35% and think it's automatically okay to put iton their car windows. A 35% window film will guarantee you that your vehicle will be illegal, and here's why:
ALL vehicles come from the factory with a certain percentage of tinting incorporated into the glass. In most cases it blocks out approximately 20% of the available light, which means that 80% is still passing through. ...
Here's where the trouble begins. When you place a 35% window tint film over a vehicle window that is already blocking out 20% of the available light, you have now reduced the LTV to 28%, which is ILLEGAL! ...
(Windows that are tinted darker than 35% are very obvious to police officers.) We want you understand the law completely because there are many Window Tint Shops out there who are telling their customers that a 35% window tint film placed on their vehicle glass is legal, which it isn't. (And you just saw why.)

Be forwarned that if you get stopped with illegally tinted windows, it's YOU that gets the $55.00 ticket, not the shop that installed it. Plus you'll have the added cost of having it removed from your vehicle, which is probably as much as it was to have it put it on!"
