Favorite motoring spots in DC area...
Hello everyone!
Incredibly excited that I'll be getting my MCS next weekend. Would love to know what places in the DC area you guys love to motor. Also, does anyone know about raceways where I could really see what it can do? Thanks!

Congrats on your purchase.
By "motor", you mean go for a spin? The GW parkway is nice, curvy in some places, scenic, usually not a lot of traffic.
As for raceways, I like to take the opportunity at every stoplight that turns green to see how fast I can get it. The only thing is...the speeding tickets...

If you mean drag strips there are a bunch of those in the area. There's 75-80 in the Frederick area and Capitol Raceway in Crofton.
If you want a street style racetrack there's Summit Point near Charles Town, WV. I went there last September with MINI of Towson and had a blast. They also do events (which I believe sell out alot) called Fridays At The Track. Basically it's an all day Friday thing with a bunch of track sessions (each track session is usually ~20 minutes).
There's also a Phil Wicks driving school running there June 29th at Summit Point. I'm not sure if it's all full though. I've heard many a good thing about his driving schools too.

Some of our favorites, all within a day's motoring distance west of DC:
US219 from Accident, MD south the the New River Gorge area in southern WV;
MD 77 from Thurmont MD over Catoctin Mountain to a left on MD 17 (Wolfsville Rd.) south to Burkittsville. In Burkittsville, you can pick up Gapland Rd. westbound over South Mountain. For those who like ice cream, I recommend taking a detour from 17: in Middletown, turn left onto Alt. 40 westbound. Drive a short distance out of Middletown, and turn left onto southbound Bolivar road. South Mountain Creamery is on the left side of the road. After finishing ice cream, continue on Bolivar to a left on Marker Road. Take Marker to a left onto Mountain Church Road. Follow Mountain Church Road to its end at a T intersection. A left turn here takes you to Burkittsville; a right puts you on Gapland climbing the mountain.
US 9 westbound from I-81 to out past Berkeley Springs, WV offers some great views- especially the overlook of the Potomac valley at the confluence of the Cacapon river. (this is where my sig pic was shot.)
Near the MD-PA border north of Hagerstown, Pen Mar High Rock Road runs up the slope of South Mountain from the town of Pen Mar to a rock outcrop that has a great view of the valley to the west, and also serves as a launch point for hang gliders. (We found this place by by random motoring- we were in the town and turned up the road "just to see where it goes." We had no idea what was waiting for us on the way up, or at the top!)
For those willing to brave unpaved, 1-lane for long stretches roads, Mt. Ephriam Rd. in upper Montgomery county is a good challenge. Be sure to put on your mud-and-snows before setting out! The road runs from Park Mills Rd. in Frederick county, up over the southwest flank of Sugarloaf Mountain, and connects to Comus Road in Montgomery.
MD 144 / Scenic US 40 over Sideling Hill makes a good alternate to the I-68 cut through the ridge. Take Scenic 40 one way, and I-68 back the other, if you want to get a good look at the inside of what you just motored over...
Enjoy!

The FATTs (BSR) do sell out quickly especially the novice groups. Other groups that run at Summit Point are Car Guys, BMW Car Club, and NASA. Most other car clubs allow other makes to join, such as Porsche, Ferrari, and Audi.
