I hate runflats, ok just nails...

I am so tired of getting flats. Within one year I've had to replace three tires due to nails.

Well my tire still has a slow leak and now I have to buy yet another run flat. I swear, my car is a magnet for nails.

Thing is, when did the price of Goodyear Eagls RSA go up? I paid $200 for one tire last year and now the price is near $300. This is including installation of course.

Anyone know where I can get a good deal on one of these in the area?

Thanks

Might be an idea to order one online, and have it mounted/balanced/installed locally. Could save some bucks. I did some local shopping before I bought my Toyo Proxes 4 from a shop online/over the phone, and all the local guys wanted $75 more for a single tire alone. Crazyness.

TireRack is a good source to at least price tires online.
The 17" Good Year RSA are currently $247/each. Add shipping and local mounting, and that's about $280 and change. I've used Costco for other cars, and they have ordered the tires I wanted from the manufacturer. They had good prices including installation.

How come you had to the replace the runflats because of nails? Did they puncture the sidewall?

No, one of the guys at LDG patched it, but the hole was so big it had a small leak. I'm going to keep looking around. Luckily I live within five miles from work so Im in no rush to buy one. And if the weather warmed up just a bit I coudl ride my bike.

Oh well...

When a shop uses the proper patches, with tire off the wheel, the patch and plug look like one of those rubber golf tees at a driving range. It's on piece. The patch portion is silver dollar size or bigger, and the plug portion is thicker than say a tootsie roll. Unless the hole is really big, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck.

I feel your pain.

6 days after picking up the car I had one in my rear driver side.

Luckily I took it to the goodyear shop in McLean and it was fixed for free under warranty.

Also, all the stones that get stuck in the tires! Makes me feel like I am on a horse when I drive with the windows down!

I've picked up a screw in each of my rear tires, about 3 weeks apart. I took the wheels off and put plugs in them. I've got runflats. The plug are holding. I've plugged several radials in the past without any failures. I use the radial plugs and kit from Walmart.

How do you come to $340? Tire rack is $247 + $15 shipping ... Their warehouse is in NJ. You will have the tire a day or two. Thats $352. Where does the other $90 come from?

Tirerack's warehouse is in Delaware - I live in NJ and have ordered several sets of tires from there. The tires still need to be mounted and balanced.

OK, thats even closer (I knew it was close by)

but $90 install? That is a ripoff. I had exactly that tire ordered, got it in one day, and mounted for $35.

In fact, from now on I would just drop ship them to a local tirerack recommended installer.

Honestly its not a ripoff. I used to use tirevan.net and paid just under $200 for the same tire including installation and balancing. Now they are charging $325 and it'll take until the end of the week for the tire to get here.

So paying $340 isnt bad compared to what everyone else is charging now.

And yeah, it thought about using tirerack. But they are charging $260~ including shipping. And thats without the installation and balancing.

oh well, cars still suck, haha... why can't fairfax be a bit more bike friendly. I'd ride everyday if I didnt feel so unsafe around here.

I ended up going with Craven Tire and Auto here in Fairfax. Its right down the street from work so its a bit more convenient than anything.

Not too thrilled to pay the money but at least I'll feel more comfortable trying out the pulley that was just installed.

I had a terrible time getting my Pirelli euforia run flats fixed after a nail puncture and made the dealer in Sterling give it back to me when they took it off and mounted a brand new one. It says right on the sidewall not to repair but I finally found that NTB on Route 1 in Alexandria would fix it for me. The manager's wife has a MINI and he seemed to know what he was doing. It was still hell for them to get the 17" tire off of the rim and get it reseated. I have had two flats since and they repaired both of them for $39 each. I am trying to trade my 17" S-Lite wheels now for some 16" non-run flats because I am tired of the harsh ride on the streets of DC. They did keep my wife from being stranded at night in the rain but that is what AAA is for.

Sorry for the noob question, I am new to the board and just ordered an '06 MCS.

Isn't it possible to mount regular tires on the 17" MCS rims?

Or is the anxiety of running regular tires and having a flat with no spare?

Thanks!

It's possible to mount non-runflats on the OEM rims. It's just a little bit more of a hassle for the mounting place as theres a lock ridge/lip in the rim that holds a runflat in place if pressure is lost.
