Red Bull MINI in Fairfax
Red Bull MET
I actually used to work for Red Bull and drive the MINI. You can't get them to pay for your car unfortunately. These are strictly marketing cars that belong to Red Bull's Mobile Energy Team. Basically, our job was to drive around, have fun and give people free Red Bull. That's right, free. You don't have to sign anything or answer any questions or even do stunts, just go up to one of them and ask. They have a whole fleet of MINIs, Ford Explorer Sport-Tracks (for when 4WD is in order) and Suzuki Vitaras (for when a small, crappy, pseudo SUV is in order, at least the top comes off). They have teams in pretty much every state and definitely in every major city. My territory was the whole state of Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The job is really fun, you can see if there are openings in your area by following the career links at www.redbullusa.com
That MINI was a blast to drive, the can makes it a bit top and back heavy, so you can do great donuts in it. One time we were on two wheels in our Vitara, which has the same weight distribution problem in it.
And NAM is a great site, where else can you talk about Red Bull, cigars, MINIs, and play word association and once upon a time all while you're at work?
Actually, the company I work for now, Wilmington Trust, a bank in Delaware uses MINIs as marketing vehicles as well, but I don't get to drive one unfortunately. We even have big billboards on I-95 with our custom MINIs on them that say "Great things come in small packages, talk to our representative about small business banking."

HAHA, no she probably wouldn't, but it's a great part-time job. I think when I left I was getting paid around $12 an hour, which isn't bad for a college student in this area and working almost 30 hours a week. And since the populated areas of our territory are far apart, almost all the time in our six hour shifts was spent driving. So we really only worked, if you can call hanging out at surfing events and college campuses work, for about two to three hours a day.
You should see the Mobile Energy Team in other countries, especially in Sweden and Austria and Germany. They only hire women, and they're all beautiful. I'll have to see if I can find pictures somewhere.
Another perk of the job is free admission to Red Bull events, while I was there I went to surf competitions, kite-surfing competitions, power boat races and I got pit passes to a formula race some of Red Bull's cars were in. That was really fun, I got to go right up to a formula car while they were prepping it for the next run.

Those are really cool looking, I want some jet engines on my MINI, even if they aren't functional. I really think Oscar Mayer should make a MINI weinermobile that can rolll out the back of the big one, a la Knight Rider. Just a thought really.
In all the times that I have passed that place, I don't think that the MINI has ever moved.
Didn't Red Bull order 50 of those from some place in LA or SF. I remember reading about it in First Gear.

Yeah, I know the cars are made in CA somewhere and then shipped to wherever Red Bull needs them. Apparently, they have a huge warehouse out there filled with their marketing fleet. It's quite a sight I'm sure. I think their initial order was about 50, but they're probably up to at least 75 in the US, and probably another 75 or so in Europe.
When I went out for lunch just a couple days before the Grand-Am race (the one that Tony Nuzzo's Minis ran in) last month, I happened to run into the RedBull girls who were driving the Mini around Daytona. I sat down next to them and started asking them about the car & what they do while out on promotions. I wanted them to come back to town on the day of the race, because I was planning a SunshineMinis meet for lunch and the race. I ended up getting a business card from them, and they told me ask their boss about having someone show up with the car. I got in touch and coordinated the time & place for our event. I was told I'd get a call when they got into town, and sure enough they showed up while we were having lunch!

The moral of the story is this - all of you should find the local Team Manager for RedBull promotions, because they are very eager to come out to any Mini events might be coming up in the future.

Absolutely get in touch with those managers, if you need names and contact numbers, let me know, I still have a lot of friends on my old team, and I can definitely get you in touch with them. Just PM me or AIM me at Supe2000. Just let me know what area of the country you're in and I'll get you a name as soon as I can.
I do wish they'd just do graphics and leave that big stupid cylinder off the back. It's not an improvement.
"Oh look, Red Bull is in your neighborhood ruining perfectly great looking cars!
" Yeah, that works. At least the Weinermobile was beyond recognition.
They should use the money to sponsor a MINI racing team. I'd like that.

A Red Bull Mini was seen in Canton, Ohio, Thursday evening, around suppertime by my sister and her hubby. I think it's the same one that I've seen cruising the Wooster/Mansfield area, even though this sighting was a bit farther east.
