HI HO HI HO - it's off to Maine we go!

Me and the Cooper (the one that poops) are off to the wilds of northern Maine on Wednesday. I'll be stopping off in NY to say hey to VANDERSPUNK! High in Aroostook County today is 8 degrees. Bleech. Good thing Cooper got a little coat from Santa!

Here's to moose-free, ice/snow-free travels!

You'll likely pass within 5 miles...

of my place off exit 36(interstate 95) in Maine. Weather looks good for the next several days. Enjoy the ride and be ready to wash off the road grime when you get back. Safe trip.

we've arrived

and there is SNOW here! Yikes! At least a foot on the ground - thankfully the roads are clear and car and dog arrived safely. No moose spotted yet.

... my visit to Maine is resembling something out of the Shining - it's been snowing a few inches every couple of days. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll get out of my parents driveway with my all seasons - they have a 1/4 mile uphill driveway.

On a good note - CTD (Cooper the Dog) is having a blast in the snow. He says HI to all of his DCMM buddies.

....no dice on getting out of the driveway.. need to bump up the tire pressure a little - and wait for the snowplow guy to show up. Curiously - the car climbs better with the DSC off.

Ack!!!

This is what I faced this morning - leave tomorrow or leave early (today) -

"NORTHWEST AROOSTOOK-NORTHEAST AROOSTOOK-NORTHERN SOMERSET- NORTHERN PISCATAQUIS- ....WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST TUESDAY...SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW WILL MIX WITH SOME SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN...MAINLY FROM PRESQUE ISLE SOUTH...LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET ARE EXPECTED THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE AREA...WITH 8 TO 14 INCHES EXPECTED SOUTH OF PRESQUE ISLE. ICE ACCUMULATIONS AROUND A TENTH OF AN INCH ARE EXPECTED SOUTH OF PRESQUE ISLE.

I am now sitting in a hotel room in Portland - it took me 30 mins to just get out of the driveway of my parents 1/4 mile long (uphill) driveway. DSC/NON-DSC starts were of no use. Had to chug out the snowblower and trudge up the hill, snowblow, gravel and then I got out only after a running start of 30mph, over railroad tracks that cross their property, and slipping and scratching up the hill. Cooper the dog was impressed with my backupdownahillwithoutengagingtheABS skills.
