If I trade for another car it will have to have better high speed road manners (interstate) or be electric for city driving (with hopefully better road manners than the current Smart Car). Most of my daily driving is less than 13 miles one way, all in town so I’m in the target group for hybrid/electric or electric cars.

That's the COOLEST thing on wheels I've ever seen!
I love my MINI, but there's always room in the garage for more toys! Just wish the bank account had enough room to fill the garage.

Oh HELL no.

If it's a straight-up trade for a Lotus Exige, now you're talking.

I've test driven the Smart. It has its niche. Trade in a Mini for one? Never!

Read the NY Times review of the Smart. They hated it - thought it drove horribly, was not suited for highways and did not shift properly.

The local MB dealership sells them, and I took one for a spin while I had our wagon in the shop. It basically drove like an over-powered golf cart. There's no way in hell I'd ever take that thing on the highway, but then again that's not what it was designed to do.

NO.

I drove one on Saturday and thought it was fine, but I wouldn't want to drive it on the highway around here. It would be fine for running errands around DC, but not for a long drive. I thought it handled pretty well.
