Korean BBQ @ Honey Pig Gooldaegee
Korean BBQ @ Honey Pig Gooldaegee
Okay. I just came from a new Korean BBQ restaurant called Gooldaegee in Annandale, VA, that is hands down the best place I've been to in this area. Even though the kalbi (beef short rib) maranade and panchan (side dishes) might not be as "sophisticated" as some places, it blows away the others for overall quality of food and sheer fun factor.
I'm interested in finding 6 or 7 people at the most to go there with me. You should love to eat and not be squeamish about BBQ beef ribs, BBQ pork belly (which is bacon), BBQ squid, spicey food, crowded noisey environs, K-pop music, and an occassional cigarette being lit at a near by table (the BBQ fans pretty much suck all the smoke upwards anyway). They also have various kinds of Soju, the Korean liquor of choice which people often drink with Korean BBQ. Gooldaeji is open 24/7 and is populated by mostly young professionals.
So....anyone game?

PlayPlay, have you been to a restaurant in Wheaton called Woo-Mi Garden? If so, how does the place you went to compare? I really enjoyed Woo-Mi.

Nope, haven't been there. I'll definitely have to go there sometime! Thanks for the tip! Is it more of a traditional restaurant? or kind of bar-like BBQ hangout? I'd say this place is more like the latter....if you've been to Yetsun in Annadale, you'll know what I mean. But, this place is a definite improvement over Yetsun.
It is bbq with a sushi bar. Grills in the tables and vents over them. No dress code or anything like that and they have nice big tables to accommodate us if we get alot.

I'd be interested! Can you send more details about the place? Google is coming up with nothing! I might also have a co-worker come with me. Her family is from Korea and she is always trying to get us to go to new Korean BBQ restaurants... she's got great insider knowledge
This is not meant to be a big DCMM function or anything. Just looking for a group of 6 to 8 max folks who want to go specifically to Gooldaegee. We can always arrange another trip to the Wheaton place or any other place for that matter some other time.
Will post more info later...

Sweet.
Minyuette, I was thinking more on a weekday because I think the weekends will be very very crowded. The place was hoppin' last night and the waitress said its like that every night.

I found some more info. I spelled the name wrong originally, so thats why people prol couldnt find anything about it
As you can see from the reviews its a mixed bag of pros and cons. Fine dining it is NOT. Loud, crowded, lots of grilled meats, and soju!

I'm definitely in, and my Korean co-worker would love to come, too (she hasn't been). Weeknights are fine with us - if you end up setting a date, let us know!
Even if you don't end up getting a group together, thanks for letting us know about a cool new place!

Great writes ups here! Thanks RadishAttack!
Kalbi is a must. I dont think they have Yukaejang sorry. I think we should focus mostly on the grilled stuff! Although, I hear they have a special NaengMyun made with daikon broth and a pork & potato stew that are supposed to be real good.
Okay, I have set the date and time.
The address is:
7220-C Columbia Pike
Annandale, VA 22003
We will just meet in the parking lot in front of the restaurant. We will probably have to wait a short while for tables.
It is located on Columbia Pike behind the Bank of America just North of Little River turnpike. You will have to pay real attention because the front of the store is not facing the road. It is on the side of a building and the sign is mostly in Korean. If you get on to Columbia Pike from Little River Turnpike, it will be on your left shortly after your turn.

Looks like we have about 6 to 8 people now. I'd like to keep it that way. More people can come but it will be really difficult to sit together. PM me or post here if you plan on going just to reconfirm if you can make the time and day.

Do they have a non-smoking section?
