FEELER: [Sept. 2008] White Water Rafting, Harper's Ferry, WV

Hey DCMM, this is only a feeler at this point. But, I need something to look forward to to cure the post-track-day blues

Circa July 6th, we tried to have a water sports day but there were alot of other events going on around that time not to mention the holiday weekend, so things fell through. I'd like to resurrect that idea but narrow activities down to one event, only: white water rafting. Not fishing....Not a leisurely paddle down a tributary in a canoe....not even coasting down the river on a tube with beer in hand....I'm talking white knuckle, hanging on for dear life, heart pounding, bone jarring, icey river water in the face rafting! (actually, the Level 1-3 tour prol won't be that crazy )

The River Riders company offers many different white water rafting tours, but I am thinking about the most popular one out of Harpers Ferry, WV on the Shenendoah River. It is only Level 1 - 3 which I assume means fairly accessible to novices. Here is a link for more information: http://www.riverriders.com/RRMain.as...fting&TripID=1

Please let me know if you are interested in participating and I will try to organize something.

Okay....39 views and no responses! Oh the silence is deafening! If you have any other suggestions please feel free to chime in, I am not absolutely set on rafting. But, I would like us to focus on one activity so we're not spread out all over the shenendoah valley

Sounds like fun indeed.

Do you have any date in mind?

Hey Maxi,

Well, so far just left it open to Septemeber. So far, there wasn't anything on the Calendar for September, yet. We could also try for the end of August. It just depends on feedback we get from others.

The only thing is I will probably set a drop dead date for signing up at some point so we can reserve space on a specific date and time. I'll talk to the company and provide a few more details soon.

We can also do canoeing if people would prefer that. Not sure if that requires as much advance notice.

Gosh, I hate to rock the boat ( ) but I'm not into white water rafting. Is there any chance that we could think about canoeing or kayaking also?

I'm willing to compromise with canoeing. But, that's about it

How about adding one of those poll thingies?

Choices might be:
white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, tubing. The one with the most votes wins?

I think Maxicooper knows... it's what he uses to get votes for photos.

Chris?

Um...for some reason I don't have the rights to do that, yet.

In the meantime, I don't need no stinkin technology!

White Water Rafting: PlayPlay, MaxiCooper, CCC777

Canoeing/Kayaking: PlayPlay, CCC777, Hypnohealer, PenelopeCooper

Tubing: KGDBLU, PenelopeCooper

Do we have a snorkel diving option?

Count me in on the white water.

Will the water be too cold for tubing? If it'll be "reasonable", I'd love to come along! I enjoy lazily drifting along, taking in nature, and enjoying the water.

I've always wanted to go whitewater rafting, but I'm newly handicapped and am not sure if that would pose a problem. How much legwork is involved with... um... holding on for dear life? Hahaha! I have no sensitivity in my left foot or ankle. I can walk, but I won't feel if it's slipping out from under me in the watercraft...

I'd certainly try canoeing or something more tame, if need be. I guess my adrenaline addiction will have to be edited to suit my new physical hang-ups.

*Grumble, grumble, grumble...*

DOH!

Penelope, sorry to hear about your new handicapped status. I will check re: the rafting requirements. But at this point, I think more people are interested in canoeing/kayaking. More later...
