[Sundae, July 13th @ 10AM] Drive Anyone? We All Scream For More Ice Cream
[Sundae, July 13th @ 10AM] Drive Anyone? We All Scream For More Ice Cream
Hey everyone,
Since some people couldn't make it to We All Scream For Ice Cream v.1 due to conflicting activities, I'm gonna re-run this again.
After some feedback from the first Guinea pigs, it was decided that v.1 may have been a little too long. I'll be working in the next couple of weeks to trim some excess fat from the route (but not the ice cream
). I'm also gonna look into the possibility of changing out some roads or reversing direction of others to change it up for the veterans.
The first run worked very good due to the small group size. I'm recruiting some help on this run so that we may have a couple of groups instead of one large conga line negotiating the twisties and dealing with traffic.
Same as last time, we will meet at 10:00AM upstairs at Wegman's in Hunt Valley, Shawan Road exit off I-83N.
Run length: 150.5 miles.
The run will start in northern Baltimore County. From there, it will go around Harford County, across the Susquehanna River to Cecil County and back through Harford County ending up at Broom's Blooms Dairy near Belair.
Sorry for fans of Pennsylvania asphalt, but the little sprint over the state line didn't make the cut for the second version of the run.
The run, like most of mine, is a comprised mostly of back-country roads with lots of elevation changes and twists

Nice play on words with the date in the thread title... I thought it was a typo at first.
I'd like to make this run, and I'll definitely try... but the jury is still out for now!

Just wanted to say that I am still looking forward to my second run. I'm a little worried: does the size of the group affect the definition of "slow"?
I did something really stupid this weekend (it involves backing down the driveway with a very large dog in the backseat...and, oh, yeah, there was a concrete curb. Not sure how I forgot it was there.). The up side? I'll be driving on new back tires!
Looking forward to seeing everyone I met on the cherry picking run and meeting others.

Smaller groups usually do equal more spirited driving.
Fewer cars means that there is less time spent regrouping or waiting at traffic lights.
The pace is regulated by my rear view mirror though. If I notice cars keep disappearing, we'll slow down to a more leisurely pace.
Having said that, this run isn't really about driving fast. The fun part is negotiating the tight turns, twisties and hills.
Don't worry, you survived Maxicooper's run. You'll do fine on this one.

Don't let anyone ever tell you that organizing a run is easy.
I just got back from Broom's Blooms Dairy.
Had to make sure that the ice cream was still up to standard.
The pineapple coconut passed with flying colors.
Same with Tuesday night's Mocha Chip
and Mango
and Green Tea Mango
and Caramel Cashew
and Cranberry Walnut
and Strawberry
and Key Lime Pie
and Red Raspberry
and Mint Chocolate Chip
Afterward, I ran part of the last hour of the route just to be sure that, you know, the roads were still there and none of the curves were missing.
Yeah, the things I do for my fellow members.

Let's see... 72.6 miles from my house to the meeting point... 150.5 miles on the run... and 82.9 miles back home from Bel Air...
That's a 306 mile day - effectively a full tank in the Z4!
I may be crazy... but I'll still try to make it - the sweeper's sweeper again!

I'm nursing a cold and was just sitting here weighing the pro's and cons of going to the gym. Ok, maybe just trying to convince myself there are pro's. After reading that post, I think I have no choice! I think I gained a pound and a half just reading.
P.S. I've been in training myself all week -- Safeway brand Alaskan Classics - Extreme Moose Tracks. Can't wait to try Broom's.
P.P.S. Still with the Z4?!?
