[Monday, July 21st] Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy at VIR
Kurvhugr are you planning on caravaning? or just taking the same route?
I have just updated JustDandy's post here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&postcount=124
Seems like more people are now interested in Caravan B at this point. It is relatively direct and better scenery is a plus. Someone mentioned departing around 10:00am. So I've put that down as the departure time from the rally point. Speaking of rally point, I suggest meeting at a shopping center parking lot right at the intersection of Route 28 and Route 29 in Centreville, VA. There is a Trader Joe's there. The address is: 14100 Lee Hwy, Centreville, VA 20120
Does that work for everyone in Caravan B?

Here is a tentative Caravan B map. Total driving time 4 hours, 37 minutes, NOT including stops for lunch, etc.
This version deleted to avoid confusion.

Thanks for the directions. I tried posting the Mapquest directions but I was clueless on how to do it. Meeting at the parking lot in Centreville looks good since to close to the Route 66 exit.
I am ready to roll
except for packing

Here are the Mapquest directions. The main difference is using 29 thru Gainesville.
Total Estimated Time: 4.0 hours 6 minutes

FYI, I am planning on traveling south on Sat and stopping overnight at my family farm; will see every one at the Sleep Inn on Sunday.
Should my plans change, I will meet in Centerville too.
Remember, watch your speed between Madison and Ruckersville!

I noticed that the beginning of your trip shows us hitting Route 66 before getting back on Route 29. Was that to save some local driving time? Otherwise, we could just hit Route 29 right away since the Trader Joe's lot is off of Route 29, and just stay on it the whole way down to Danville.
These map programs also seem to use odd routes. I guess Mapquest assumed it was the quickest. Lets just hit 29 right away.
Lets definately do lunch and an occassional break to stretch my legs (aka have a quick smoke
)
Looks like a nice group in caravan B.

Here is a revised Google Map for taking Route 29 the whole way down to Danville with "stops" in Culpeper and Lynchburg. I hope this works LOL:
Final Caravan Route to VIR
Total Estimated Time: 4.0 hours 46 minutes (not including stops for lunch, etc)
Total Estimated Distance: 223 miles

I plan to caravan since that sounds far more entertaining. It's quite a bit further to drive for me though since the starting point is about 50 miles from me, so I may change my mind.....in which case I'd be neither caravaning nor following that route. Please put me in the Caravan B group for now - thanks.
Okay, I updated the map yet again in post #216 (two posts ago) to include markers for Culpeper and Lynchburg.
I figure we can stop in Culpeper for a quick bite and again in Lynchburg for a restroom break if that's okay with everyone. Even though Charlottesville is the halfway point and a beautiful city, it is much bigger and therefore easier to get bogged down there.
So, if we're all on board, let's hear suggestions for lunching in Culpeper!

I suggest Pancho Villa ( panchovillava.com) since I'm still looking for a good Mexican restaurant in VA. It looks like they have several locations and the Culpeper location opens at 11:00 on Sundays. Anyone ever eaten at one before?
I also understand that selecting a theme restaurant can cause problems since you have to like the theme.
Foti's ( fotisrestaurant.com) looked wonderful but its a little pricey for a casual lunch stop.

Oooo...Foti's would be right up my alley, but perhaps a little too involved for this trip? It also opens at 12pm. I think we will get to Culpeper before then. Looks like East Davis Street is the place to be in Culpeper though. Lots of historical buildings and eateries, etc.
How about the place called "U Wanna I Scream" ?
