Moving to NoVA
Hi guys,
I am leaving southern Maryland and moving to NoVA for my new job in McLean.
Do anyone have any suggestions for places to live in the local area or know anyone who is looking for a roomate?

Thanks
Chris

There are a lot of ppl at the Dragon so responses may be slow at the moment.
In terms of places to live - if you want to live in DC I'd suggest Glover Park/Georgetown/Palisaeds areas. Its very close to Chain Bridge wich puts you righ tin McLean VA...

Glover Park is a Great Neighborhood
Also, take into consideration neighborhoods that are dog friendly if you have a dog (like me) and you may also want to consider Capitol Hill - it's not too bad of a commute into McLean.
I would also suggest going to craigslist.com to find places to rent and/or roommate situations. Before I bought my house this year, I found a great townhouse to rent on craigslist. I also used it when I lived in NYC to find a roommate, too. It's free and easy to use. Good luck!

Congrats on a new job!!!
If I were to to move back into NoVa. I would choose Arlington, specifically Ballston, Rosslyn and Courthouse areas It's very close to the city and only a short drive to Mclean/Tysons. It's very metro accessable in and out of the city just follow the orange line from Ballston into the city and that is were I would probably relocate. Unless I could find a Place in DC w/ a garage, But I don't have that kind of loot.
Also Maybe within old town Alexandria

Depends on what kind of place you're looking for. If you want an apartment where you can walk to dozens of restaurants and bars, Arlington is great. If you're looking to rent maybe half a duplex and have more of a neighborhood feel, check out the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria. It's a nice community where you can walk to coffee shops and little restaurants, and it feels sorta like a small town. But it's an 8 minute drive into the city and 20 minutes to McLean. Del Ray is really dog friendly, too.

I work across from the King Street Metro (one stop down from Braddock) in Old Town and sometimes walk to work from my place in Del Ray.

Not too far at all. Definitely walkable, unless you're carrying a ton of luggage or something. But if you're taking luggage, you're probably headed to the airport, which is a 6 minute cab ride away.

I work on the other end of old town by the Water.
i survived the move!
hey there, welcome to old virginie
i made the move from southern md to nova a few years back. where you move depends on where you are in life! there are some great hot spots for the young or young at heart, some nice neighborhoods for more laid back friends and families, there are places near parks and great bike paths for the energetic...just be sure to plan your commute first, if you end up fighting traffic every day, your move will seem like a mistake very quickly
i picked a good place for me and my commute and i really love the area and am very pleased with my move to nova!
best of luck!

Hey TunaMini, I myself just moved and I love my new place!! I'm off of Gallows road and it only takes about less than 10 minutes to get to the McLean area (my sister lives over there so I go a lot). It is an Archstone complex (Archstone Fairfax)- not my favorite apartment community, BUT there are a lot of townhomes, which is what I moved in to and I love it!! The neighbors are friendly, the space is huge and there are a ton of closets. Plus it's a safe neighborhood where people walk their dogs at night and you can jog around here without worrying. I'd check it out at least - talk to Faith.
Hey guys thanks for the replies. I could not access this site yesterday so my response is a little delayed.
I am moving from Hughesville, MD where the new bypass is being built. I was working for a contractor in California, MD. So far I have looked at Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church but most of the places that I find I can't afford on my own. I am looking for a place that is not overcrowded and that is a little more open than a city setting. Thanks for the suggetion of the Archstone. It looks nice and I am going to give them a call.

i was in your same position 7 months ago. I chose alexandria, just south of the beltway. the neighborhoods are old, and the crowd is OK, some really sketchy parts, but all in all i am i a great neighborhood.
You cant go wrong with old town though, just stay away from the projects on the north end.

I agree. Old Town is pretty nice. One of my friends lived in Alexandria south of the beltway in the sketchy part near the Krispy Kreme.
I'll have to swing down there this week and see whats around.
Thanks

Just a note, there is a house for rent across the street from me. PM me if you want the address.
It is probably a 2 bedroom w/ porch, running about 1500 a month. My end of the neighborhood is quiet, a lot of older folks, some of my neighborhood is sketchy but my end is nice / quiet / and on a culdesac.
we pay 1500/month, so i can only assume that is in the ballpark.
