R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
Well, I picked up my new Mini last month & being a female, I'm not the kind to open the bonnet as soon as I drive Home. Instead I read & re-read the manual & slowly learned how everything works. Please keep in mind that Mini has never seen rain, sleet or snow & probably never will....but....today I was checking where things are under the bonnet & what to my amazement!!!!!!!!!!!!!, there is NO WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID IN THE TANK"!! Not 1 teaspoon!
One would think the dealer would put in at least a cup so if the weather goes bad on the first ride home, one could use the wipers & fluid if necessary. Am I right or wrong??
Have I left anything out? Oh yeah, the dealers name...well it's the only dealer in Missouri!

NOW WE ARE TALKIN!!!!!! The no gutter just sucks when it's raining.
You guys obviously don't live in NY. I think it's a law in NY state, when delivering a new car, they MUST show (by pointing out) to the buyer, where the oil fill is, the coolant, the brake fluid and the windshield washer fluid. They also have to demonstrate all the basic controls (blinkers, lights, windsheild wipers/washwer..... I'm always suprised that they actually do it.
Windows again
I thought I caught some unusual movement out of the corner of my eye when I opened my Clubman door for the second or third time. Sure enough, the window drops down a fraction of an inch (or millimeter if you prefer)when opening and then closes tight against the rubber seal upon closing. This makes for a slight rattle from the window but it makes the door easier to close.
Nice touch.

Only if you go way back with the marque.
We had a pumpkin orange 2002, back in the days...
Actually, it was the Yuppies that started "Beemer."

Unless you are using the Spanish pronunciation of "i", I've never heard BMW cars referred to as Bimmers. In California it always sounds like Beammers to me.
Same here in Oregon: Beemer. I've always laughed at Bimmer, wondering whether people really pronounce it with a short "i" sound. I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way in the Northwest.
By the way, in Hong Kong they call our car a "coo-puh," in homage to their former Britishness. Never say Mini, though.
Love their take on the other make: Ben-zee. Sounds more regal than Mercedes. Or Benz.

I'm inclined to say "Beemer" out of habit but I know it's wrong... I've heard at least one guy from the WI chapter of the BMWCCA (the Badger Bimmers) pronounce it with the short "i" vowel sound.
bimmer is car (ex: www.bimmerworld.com)
beemer is motorcycle (ex: http://yankeebeemers.yuku.com/)
It is a long time 'battle' between bmw car and motorcycle owners... I took the following from wikipedia, so you can take it with a grain of salt. But from my old e30 forum days I remember this driving people crazy. I have no idea why!
"The term "beemer" started as an acronym for the abbreviation "BMW," adapted from the early-20th century British pronunciation of BSA (as /ˈbisə/ or /ˈbizə/), whose motorcycles were often racing BMWs. Over time, the term became closely associated with BMW motorcycles.
In the United States, the term "bimmer" was later coined to refer (exclusively) to BMW automobiles. As such, use of the word "beemer" to refer to a BMW automobile is frowned upon by some BMW enthusiasts, because it is the term used for motorcycles. Although the distinction is completely arbitrary, to this day, the media, movies, and most people still use the term "beemer" to refer to the automobiles"

Are you people serious? Or just new to the BMW marque?
Man, we 2002 people ALWAYS said Bimmer (short i). I didn't hear Beemer until the Yuppies made them popular. When, back in the 80's? 90's? Can't remember--I wasn't a Yuppie then. Still not.

St. Louis, Mo. for 5 years; Chicago area, 20. I've only been in Houston 32 years. 32 years. Ugh. Dreaming for some decent terrain and seasons.
And now you've got my age. Drat! I was hoping to pass as one of the "youngsters" on this board.

VERY COOL TRICK (unless this is already listed)
You can role the windows UP and close the sunroof from outside the car with the key from the fob. Stick it in the door and give it a whirl. Probably the coolest thing I've discovered.

Thanks for getting the thread back on track!
Off topic again ... sorry.
