R50/53 Police experience (I'm gonna try this again)
Police experience (I'm gonna try this again)
Ok I am going to try this one more time. For those of you who want to escalate this to what it shouldn't be just don't. I am interested in other peoples stories.
In my opinion Mini Coopers are nice and attractive cars therefore they grab the attention of police more than some other cars. I'm almost positive more than half of us got pulled over for different reasons. If your reason for being pulled over is because of badge abusing cops or if its your fault post your story.(Not all of them are and yes they are out there to protect us). Share your stories.
Keep your posts on topic please.

Sorry, I cannot agree with you on this. I have been pulled over twice in my MINI for speeding, and it was quite obvious; I have nothing to be sore over.
MINI's don't get pulled over; their heavy-footed drivers do!

Agreed. I've had two tickets - one in my old POS Cavalier many years ago, I was going 6 over, so frankly, whatever. I felt that ticket was much less warranted than the ticket I got in my MC last year, going 85 in a 65, which I quite obviously deserved.
So I would say no, it has nothing to do with the car. It has to do with breaking the law.

I can totally agree. Especially in podunk Kentucky. When I bought my first MINI, there were a grand total of 5 MINI's (including mine) in the area. Of these, I knew three of the other owners. <- This is to demonstrate the rarity of the car here.
There have been several occasions that I've been pulled over that were at least specifically MINI related.
1. A cop pulled me over to ask me about my car. Forget the fact that I had an appointment, and I was late.
2. A cop pulled us over in Nashville (<10 miles from the MINI dealer) because my license plate was registered to a "BMW" instead of a "MINI"
While these are the only two that I can say are directly related to MINI-ness, I have my suspicions that there have been other times where the car has "attracted" po-po.

I've had several conversations with Troopers I know socially. They love the looks, and when asked by one if it was fast, I told him what I did on the track, his eyes almost popped out of his head. It's a good sleeper car.
And why don't you take the badge abuse stories here. They'd love to get some input

Disagree entirely. Never been pulled over in the mini. Got 2 tickets for speeding in my Audi A4 - 1 deserved, 1 was kind of ridiculous (395 No. of Bishop, So. of Mammoth - notorious speed trap area). Pulled over in my current other car, BMW 330ci by a motorcycle cop who had an attitude problem imo but no ticket. Pulled over when I had my Lexus SC400 for seat belt not on. Have had Mini for 3 years, 50K miles, no police action
As someone who got his first (and thus far only in the past 21 years)speeding ticket at the ripe old age of 16, for driving 79 in a 55 zone, in a FORD freakin' FAIRMONT
for God's sakes, I think the type of vehicle is most likely irrelevant.
It was a 4-door too, real ticket magnet there.

I drive in rural Tennessee and have the chance to run into redneck cops all of the time and I have never had a problem.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: For years I've driven a loud, lowered 240Z, a bright red Porsche with illegal tints, and my HB/W MINI with aero, bonnet stripes, etc... And the only car I've ever been pulled over in was a purple mini-van. Even though it seems totally logical that johnny-law would tend towards cars that just look like they're driven irresponsibly, even with mods that are clearly illegal, my own experience has proven otherwise.
wow, what a disappointing thread. the guy isnt asking you to converse about your agreement with his views, just post up your police encounters so someone else can get a kick out of them! None of us are proud of these moments, but you might as well make light of the situation youve (hopefully) learned from! heres mine:
I was 17, of course dumbly ignorant of speed limit signs (as many of us were/ARE), and i was driving my dad's Volvo 850 GLT 5 speed station wagon. We were on our way back from Hooters (first and last time there btw) and my friend was riding with a kid driving his mommy-given 2004 Subaru WRX... way too much car for this kid (NOT responsible, bad grades, drugs, everything). SO, we get on the highway, and he just takes off, swerving everywhere between traffic. i get up to speed in my adequately powered station wagon, and decide why the heck not, just keep accelerating. as i was slowing down, kind of chuckling about how fast that was, those blue and whites went on behind me. WHAT A FEELING. never has my body pumped so much adrenaline into my system! As I received my ticket for 80 mph in a 65, I wondered to myself why the cop hadnt seen the wrx, who reportedly was cruising at about 130. The cost of my attempt to even approach the blaring stupidity of the wrx driver? $244, and a lingering fear for driving any faster than 70 mph on the highway.
cmon, im sure there are some good ones out there!

I'm pretty sure that just the simple fact that I (at the time an 18-year-old male) got pulled over in a purple minivan is plenty entertaining. The circumstance itself was about as ordinary and boring as it gets... But of you insist:
I was heading home on lunch break, came over a hill at ~60 in a 45, and got tagged before I could scrub off more than 3-4 mph. I apologized, stated I just wasn't paying attention, and drove away with a written warning.
And now that you've all fallen asleep...

You are incorrect... the purple mini van thought alone will keep me entertained for the next few days...
The best one I can think of -
My friend's dad had a Ford Model A back when we were in high school. He was allowed to drive his dad's car on nice days in the summer.
He got pulled over for doing 45mph in a 35mph zone. Here I thought Model A's only had a top speed of 40mph.

I've only been pulled over twice in my MINI. Once by a city cop for not wearing a seatbelt (I was only moving my car a block over - was too lazy to buckle up for the short trip).
The second time was by a trooper, apparently people had phoned in reports of kids street racing (I was out for a leisurely drive). I was alone on this road, and yet he pulled me over. He literally walked around my car, noticed I didn't have a front plate and gave me a verbal warning for that.
I put the front license plate back on later that night. No problems since.

The first ticket in the Audi was classic . . . going up to Lake Arrowhead on Hwy 18 & just had new forged rims/perf. tire mounted with Eibach springs. Powering up a long sweeper with no one else around at about 85 mpg and just as I get around the curve I see the CHP guy at the turnout shooting radar. That's when I bought my Valentine One. Used it very effectively on long trips, and then about 2 years ago my wife and I were going to the Sierras. Gonna leave 5 AM (riiight) Wife and mom-in-law not ready. Finally leave at about 9:30 and 2 miles from house realize I left the radar detector in other car. Wife says "go ahead and go back and get it honey" and I decide "no, I got along w/o detector for many, many years. Of course just north of Bishop, radar trap and written up at 85mph. My own damn fault - would have had all the warning in the world with the v1
My personal fave was blasting past a cop on the side of the road. while i was in the car pool lane pulling thru 130 mph at full throttle. and gaining. How did i not get caught. No clue. I just wont do it again.
This was just after being asleep in the horror that is my uncles aston martin DB9 (have you seen the back seats?) and having the po po flash lights as the car flew by at Vmax. (reportedly) i know nothing.

I was letting the close to the speed limit and got caught stories slide as they didn't encourage it, but silversmoke06 crossed the line of
We're not here to encourage law breaking.
So this one is now done too.
