This year's Fall Leaves Tour 2013 is in the works. A must trip consist of a drive to Canaan Valley to take in some of the most wonderful sights ever! Of course a stop in Thomas/Davis will be on the schedule for some good food, times, friends and even a concert.
Our trip planner has the first weekend taken with some activities so I'm thinking the middle of October will be in order.
We are working on the details but for sure plan on a FULL day of driving and fun, fun, fun.
Visit this post often for updates. There could be an overnight stay even should we elect that part of our plans.

Okay, here are the details for our next drive along the George Washington Highway to Canaan Valley:

Overview:

Almost Heaven Desserts
Cathedral State Park – photo opportunity
Fairfax Stone – photo opportunity
Lunch – Purple Fiddle (Thomas) – Free concert at 1PM by Zach Davey O (http://www.daveyo.com)
Timberline Ski Lift ($8 per person) 254 Four Seasons Drive, Davis Location: Lat: 39° 2’16.64” N Lon: 79° 24’11.96” W

Details:

First Leg (Bridgeport to Cathedral State park – 49 miles) about 1 hour
Meet-up at Almost Heaven Desserts on 100 West Main Street in Bridgeport, WV at 9:30AM
Take US 50 East to Cathedral State Park

Second Leg (Cathedral to Fairfax Stone – 30 miles) about 40 min
Take US 50 East to Gormania, and turn right on WV 90 towards US 219
Turn right on US 219 North and travel about 4.5 miles to County Route 9
Turn right onto County Route 9 to the Fairfax Stone

Third Leg (Fairfax Stone to Thomas – 6 miles) about 10 min
Retrace our way to US 219 turning left towards Thomas
Turn left on WV 32 in Thomas and park near the Purple Fiddle

Lunch at the Purple Fiddle

Fourth Leg (Thomas to Timberline – 15 miles) about 30 min
After lunch we’ll take WV 32 towards Timberline Ski Resort
Left turn onto Co Route 32/16 (Timberline Road, Davis W. Va.)
The ski lift is open 10AM to 6PM and is $8.00 per person. I’m sure the view will be spectacular…foliage may be past prime…cold? You bet!

From there we can take the four winds home!
