Not sure if this has been discussed locally or even announced yet, but at the R56 press launch MINI let us know that there would be a new dealer in Omaha coming online (it's in the plans, not sure yet if ground has broken or not).

Anyone local know any more details?

The dealer is set to take the keys from the construction company on the 15th of Feb. We hope to be going for an opening day celebration shortly after that. Maybe as soon as the 17th. There is talk in the KC MINI club of making the trip up. Have not seen anything from the IOWA group. I took some pictures of the dealership a week ago.

I love the matchbox display cases for the MINI such a great idea.

the center verticle window I believe is a vehicle lift. Suggested by the arrow in the previous picture.

We haven't talked as a group about making a trip yet. Thanks for the heads up by posting on our Yahoo group -- it will be sure to get us making plans for a visit.

The dealership called me today to give a little update. They will probably not be ready for the 17th. However, the following weekend looks positive. If the weather holds out that weekend. So all stay ready. Jeremy (the MA I spoke with) is looking forward to a great opening day event. Now on to update KC and the IOWA group. Such short notice I hope we get a large turn out.

 

Thanks for the update - I couldn't make the 17th, but if it's the 24th, I should be able to go. Please keep us posted on the Iowa Yahoo site.

Sounds like the 3rd of March is the new projected day. They get the keys in the morning but the service area is not ready yet nor do they have inventory so that could put a damper on things. Wouldn't you like to see the completed dealership? Going now would be like getting your MINI half finished.

I've got an appointment to get my air bag system reset (light is on) and oil change tomorrow @ 7am! I was just going to hang out there during the repairs but they offered me a loaner without me asking! I'm thinking Markel MINI is gonna be a fantastic dealership! I might even apply to be a MA!

..my wife and I stopped by Markel today for her to test drive a manual S (I already know I want one). While we were waiting for the car to be fueled up, the salesman took us over to the new showroom. I can't wait to see it full and up and running. We were the only ones in there, and got a chance to really look around. They're a week or so off from being ready, but I think you will all be impressed. It's just so.......'Mini'.

yes. Stan and Teri will not be able to make the trip as they have plans to go the other direction this weekend. But they are open to future trips with the group. Maybe part of the way to the dragon the last weekend in April on the food tour.

Hi... non-mini owner, Omaha resident here. I love these cars... and am considering buying one... it would look great next to my wife's Element.

I'm also curious if that teardrop trailer is for real Zyamfier? Are there photos and details of that? (I've actually been looking at some of these for our Element too)

Hey the Saturday gathering was way fun and I'm so very excited for the official grand opening on April 1st (my 22nd birthday!)! Great opportunity to meet the other local owners and see the 2007 MCS up close!

I got a chance to chat with Russ (finance manager... great guy!) and the general manager and I'm going in for an interview Friday morning to be a MINI Motoring Advisor for Markel! I don't think their current MA's are owners, so I guess I'll just be one step ahead as I know everything about MINI, bumper to bumper. So wish me luck!

 

redmcs06 says there'll be an "official grand opening on April 1st" - that's a Sunday - is this an April Fool's or for real? (no, I don't believe in conspiracies, but I've known enough really cool April 1 gags that I'm overly suspicious these days).

Given that I-80 was closed until noon Saturday, none of the Iowa owners could get there from here - maybe by April the weather won't be so bad and we can put together a small group.
