OK, I've been working on the Green Filter intake for a while now - and I still think that totally has potential, but now I'm excited about the new possibilities for anothre intake for the Cooper.

It's called a Carbon Dynamic Airbox, or CDA. It's made by BMC, the manufacturer of the Ferrari F1 team air filter. I have one on the way, so I'll keep you all informed on the progress of this promising system. Here's the sneak peek:

I haven't forgotten the Cooper!

Very interesting. Keep us posted on the results. I might have to rethink about the H Stock class in AutoX.

Ditto, dandp. Still waiting for the perfect intake (and one that will work with the CVT). Once Randy finds it, maybe we can get together and do a dual install on our Coopers.

Great info, Randy. Kind of looks like the Viper. I look forward to hearing more as well, although I already have the Moss intake on my Cooper. Bummer that there are no intakes yet for the CVT! I hope something comes along for those folks.

Make sure to do lots of before and after testing. I have airflow data from a VW that actually flowed LESS after installation of the CDA. Of course, the VW has a much larger stock airbox.

The Viper supposedly fits the CVT. Isn't this what Diamond Racing is using on theirs?

HARMINI, you beat me to the post.

Yes, the Viper is what Diamond Racing uses on their CVTs - it is pretty expensive though, IMHO.

Hey HARMINI, I know you don't live too far away from me...be fun to to do the dual install!

How different is the CVT engine inside than the 5 speed? I assumed the transmission was - but engine? Curious to take a peek now...

The only thing I've read is that the CVT has a different size engine mount. Randy??? Do you know??

Any CVT engine photos out there as a comparison to the MC 5 speed??? Just curious as to how different under the bonnet the 2 are

The brace for Moss's Cooper intake bolts directly onto the transmission mount, which I imagine is quite different for the CVT. I assume the airbox is similar if not identical, and that the issue is more of a mounting one. The manufacturers just have to be convinced that there's enough of a market for CVT intakes, so that they'll design mounting systems using different bolt locations for the CVT.

Then again, I've already been proven wrong once in this thread... I'd be interested in a photo comparo as well.

Under the bonnet of HARMINI, a 2003 Cooper CVT.

Cool HARMINI! Maybe we can link a side by side of the CVT and 5 speed to compare. Looks like an intake would fit fine in there to me...but I'm no mechanic

Or just keep going up and down the page back to Randy's pic...

Could one of you 5-speed owners post a couple of stock engine pics here to compare?

Airbox setup looks identical. In other words, the Moss intake (the only one I know about in detail) would work fine if the metal brace had an extension leading to a different original bolt than the one on the transmission mount. Surely this can't be that difficult? Sorry, can't post a pic - no digital camera yet.

Hi Randy. This is my very first posting, anywhere. For starters I want to thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge. Your opinions and how-to's are very useful and much appreciated. Regarding this new induction setup, it looks a bit like the Pipercross Viper concept. Is it only for the Cooper, not the S? It looks sufficiently "self-contained" that the airbox (cowling) modification would not provide any benefit in a Cooper S application.
