MyMINI touring exhaust?

I would be interested to hear from anyone that might have installed a MyMINI touring exhaust on their Cooper.

http://www.myminiparts.com/proddetai...prod=MMT&cat=7

Anyone have one? Whaddya think about it? It looks to be quality, but who can tell from a 2" Internet JPG?

Thanks

It could be like the Miltek or the Scorpion. They are about the same price.

Nice price! That's actually about $100 less than the normal price on the Milltek. I would definitely contact them and ask them to clarify their use of the phrase "proven performer". That would seem to suggest that they have dyno results available.

Here is the response I got when asking the difference between their Sport and Touring Exhausts for the Cooper.

Steve
Dear Steve:

The area few differences in our Cooper systems. They are:
-The Sports system is a single rear box unit, without a front resonator,
making it a bit louder.
-The Sports system weighs in at 24lbs.
-The Touring system normally comes with a front resonator and the muffler
box design is quieter overall to begin with. The Touring systems weighs in
a t 32lbs.
-If requested, I can supply the Touring system with a straight front pipe,
making it slightly louder.
-The tips are different-the Sports system has a 3" rounded tip, the Touring
has a 3" oval tip. Both exit at the stock opening.

Both systems are from T-304 stainless steel and carry a lifetime warranty.
Both fit exceptionally well, no modifications are required and they work.

Let me know if I can be of any additional help! Thanks for your inquiry!

Sincerely,
Peter Foglia
MyMini

Yep, the price looked pretty good, and Pete has a reputation as a good guy. I just wish I could find someone who has tried one, I'm interested.

Well, I have just recently purchased and installed the Sport system, and I couldn't be happier. Nice sound and noticeable gains, too!

Here's a link to my review: Sport System
http://www.sunshineminis.org/forums/...pic.php?t=7402

And here's a link to the second: Touring System
http://www.sunshineminis.org/forums/...touring+system

Although not much has been said about the Touring, I was there and saw it first-hand. It looks dead-on. Very good quality and Pete's a great guy to work with. He'll stand behind his people and products 100%. He's got my trust.

I hope this helps, and I know I'm a little late, but if you have any other questions (specially about the Sport System), let me know.

Take care,
Leo.

Exhaust

xxTHIR13ENxx,
I read your review on your site. How would you describe the tone - I'm looking for nice sports car rumble, British and not rice.

Can you compare it to a Supersprint or Borla?

How loud is it from the outside? - I can not be waking the neighbors at night.

Thanks in advance,

Rollin

Best thing you can do is call Peter - tell him exactly what you want (sound wise) be very specific! And thats exactly what you will get. Peter is first and foremost a Mini enthutiast, he will talk to you for hours without trying to sell you something.

When I first metr Peter (I live near by), I inquired about a header. He commented, I'd love to sell you a header but its not worth the money to horsepower gained ratio. He talked me out of spending 800 some bucks!

I digress - if you do the exhaust consider adding an ITG filter at the same time to complement the exhaust. And if you got the bucks consider adding an OBX header (200 bucks on Ebay) - it will make the exhaust note a tad louder BUT most importantly enhance your mid to high torque curve. Under MCS performance there are a threads on OBX header.

Happy Holidays to all.

Hey guys, sorry for taking a while.
To answer some questions - I couldn't be happier with the exhaust, it is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Pete knows his stuff.

The tone when you turn on the car is very powerfull, not loud, just a very nice growl/rumble; very smooth. When you go first and second gear, you can tell the exhaust has been changed, but as soon as you hit 3rd and above, the sound is just as calm as the stock piece. Only when you rev it up to 4, 5K RPMs, that you can notice the tone again. Which to me is perfect, because I don't wanna be driving down the highway with a rice exhaust sound in my ear all the time...

Outside noise: my girlfriend tells me that it is loud; she was waiting for me outside her house and could tell my car was coming around the corner maybe 10 seconds before she saw me. You can't notice that inside the car, but outside there is a difference. Again, not a screaming noise, just a deep rumble when in low RPMs.

If you guys live near-by, let me know. We could meet up sometime (maybe Tower Shops, if anybody knows about it). And I'll let everybody take a look/listen on it. Also, I'll be going to the Dragon next year, so you'll be able to hear it there, too.

Hope this helps,
Leo.

PS: As comparison, I heard the Borla and Remus, and MyMini's is (in my opinion) the same sound as Remus, but for half the price. Borla was really louder, and to me, not worth the 500+ price tag. Just my .02.

that's the great thing about NAM, you can always learn about something new. I just got my MC 2 days ago, and I was just about set on the Milltek, but the touring exhaust seems like it might be made for me. I'd really like to get just a bit throatier tone, noticeable when you wind up the rpms, but virtually gone at fwy cruise speeds. Anyone who's installed the touring exhaust please pm me or post here.

thanks

Well, like I said before, I don't have the Touring, but Pete assured me the sound quality of both Sport (the one I have), and Touring were very similar (Sport being a bit louder), and it fits exactly the profile you're looking for. A deep growl (not too loud) at low RPMs and almost impossible to detect at highway speeds. Unless you rev it up.
In other words, Pete's exhausts seem to deliver sound in low gears, and power in high gears. I think that's a good way to break it down.

Take care,
Leo.

No, don't even have the car yet - will be middle of next month. And probably a couple months after that till I buy an exhaust. Hope to hear some while over in Chicago picking up the car;

I spoke with Pete for about 20 minutes today by phone - what a great guy. His enthusiasm for the Mini is incredible, he knows his stuff and really seems committed to putting out the best products possible. I'm ordering the Touring exhaust for my '06 Cooper in a few weeks.

Did you get it yet? I e-mailed Pete telling him about this thread, told him to be prepared with the shipping as I figured a lot of people would find this helpful and many would eventually get in touch with him as you did (with questions and comments, etc).

So just wondering if the exhaust has arrived yet.

Take care,
Leo.

You are right about this thread drumming up his business as I had planned to get coco floor mats from MyMini, and now considering the exhuast after reading these comments. Keep the reports coming about the sound inside and outside of the car.

Well, just took a good friend of mine for a little ride around two/three blocks today, and he (being a Porsche and BMW owner and fanatic) will definitely buy a Cooper now.

He was thinking about it, and I was the push he needed. After months of looking at the car, today he finally got a chance to feel the car.

Revved it up to 4K, he was drooling. Downshifted twice (short distance) and he was jumping in the passenger seat.

He kept on saying how the sound was deep. Really, really deep, he said - while comparing it to a Turbo Porsche!!
He wants me to finish the "project" already so that he gets a taste of what it's like on the track. Wants me to race one of his Porches from NY when he brings it down. I laughed, thinking "You seriouslly think I'll be able to even see you? Let alone keep up??" But we friends, so he might go easy... hehe

Anyways, if an exhaust can sell the car, mine did just that. He kept on looking at the pipe, going "how can something 3" wide give you such great power and soud??!!" I could tell he was trully amazed.

The whole time we had the windows down, and average speed was about 45mph. Top was 80 (going down the Tunnel in Ft. Lauderdale area, speed limit is 35, I believe). He's a lawyer, so I was "safe" .

Take care, guys.
Leo.
