How much does the stock exhaust weigh?

I was only casually shopping for an exhaust, but I think that reading this thread has me sold

Oh yeah, that's something else I forgot. The stock, as explained before, is over 40 lbs. The piece I got (Sport from MyMini), is just about 25lbs. The Touring is a little heavier, but you still save on weight. Car is lighter and although it's not much, you can feel it.

Better, much better acceleration off the line.

Take care,
Leo.

I received my Turing Exhaust and have installed it. I was expecting a little louder tone. But I am very happy. Can't really tell it's there until you push it. No highway noice.

I took my Mini out for alittle spin (1000 miles ) with my new exhaust, and I am very happy with it. Quiet on the highway, lets you know it's there when you let off the gas ( with a little rumble ) and when you really get on it, the exhaust really sounds great.,

Totally pleased.
And the people at MyMiniParts are excellent to deal with.

I don't have those sound clips. Just one of the car parked.
See my blog.

Per - I was about to buy the MyMini exhaust and then saw that you were doing the dyno test, so I decided to hold off until I saw the results.... So does this mean that you were pleased with what you saw on the dyno with the MyMini? I assume you have the sport version?

yes and yes.

The numbers were *very* similiar for all of the aftermarket systems. I chose the MyMINI because of its weight, sound and lack of a big tip.

I ran the car with the various exhausts for *miles* on the dyno before they were run, so the car had a chance to learn it's new system. After it learned, the numbers from run to run were very consistent.

Oh, and by my scale, the stock MINI Cooper exhaust weighs 31 pounds. Lightest system was 10 pounds less.

Per,

I too was waiting for your test results. Have you guys dynoed a Supertrapp? Or is too loud for your consideration, as your car is a daily driver? We drive ours daily and have been looking for a reasonable compromise between weight, power, sound, before resorting to swapping cat-back for bigger auto-x (supertrapp) and running stock exhaust the rest of the time?

How loud (dbs) is the Myminia at highway speed? Power gains: TQ; HP? What rpm range?

Kim drives ours daily and noise was a consideration. The MyMINI system was a little quieter than the Borla and a lot quieter than the Magnaflow. Haven't tested the Milltek yet, will do that next week. It's heavier than I've been quoted, interestingly enough.

You may want to read my project car updates.

haven't tested a supertrap system as that would clearly be too loud for our usage.

GRMPer - just for clarification, are you speaking of the MyMINI Sport, or Touring exhaust ?

Are you refering to the Milltek in that comment?

Is a Supersprint sport in the mix for testing?

The Mymini touring exhaust is quite quiet until you push it then it has avery nice sound. almost the same as factory when at highway speeds.

The clip on his site is of the MCS exhaust on my MCS. Although this thread was started in the MC side I'm not sure if you want the MC or MCS exhaust.

GRMPer - How about in-car sound levels? Sorry if it looks like I'm asking about something you've already commented on, but your words in post #39 could be from inside or outside. I've experienced the dreaded "resonance boom" and wish to avoid that, but what was your impression of sound levels on the road, particularly while accelerating and in that difficult (sometimes boomy) 3-4.5K range?

There is some resonance, but it's not objectionable, but certainly not as quiet as the Milltek. Note, I'm referring to the Sports w/o a resonator. Touring W/ resonator is, from what I hear, more like the Milltek..ie: quieter than the sports, magnaflow or borla.
