Dyno'd my MC

I finally got my car tuned and dyno'd today by Ron at Axis Power Racing here in St. Louis. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much power my car makes. I did not see any improvement in max hp with the tune of my SAFC2, but he was able to flatten the AF map a little, which gave me a little more around 4k rmps. Also, this dyno has been reading low in the past month or so. Ron has figured out by dynoing several cars that had just recently been dyno'd, that to get the accurate whp, the displayed figure needs to be multiplied by 1.15. He says that something on it has been going bad, but is very confident that the calculations are within 5hp.

Air temp = 98 degrees f
Humidity = 53%

128.8 x 1.15 = 147.2 whp

I'm not sure if the torque reading is off as well, I forgot to ask, but the torque curve itself is not too shabby.

Now thats a good example to show people that you really can get power out of a MC

Very good numbers. Looks like Coopers arent as sluggish as most people believe . I want to get my dyno'd once my throttle body gets here.

You list 340cc injectors on your mod list. What size are the stock ones on the cooper? I know the MCS has 340s

They are the stock MCS 340's, and actually, they're not in yet. They were supposed to go in with my headers and safc, but the connecters are different, so I didn't feel like messing with them. I'm not sure what the MC has, I couldn't find the actual numbers, but someone said 330's on here, but I dont believe that at all, because the size difference is substantial.

I'm going to go again in the fall when its much cooler, because it was really hot today anyways, and see how much of a difference it makes. And hopefully, Ron will have his dyno fixed so it will actually show what its really making. I was hesitant to post that because I'm sure some people are going to be skeptical, but whatever.. It made me happy, and it was the first new MINI that Ron has dyno'd, and he was really impressed that my car put that down with pretty much just full exhaust and intake.

Did you ever get your injectors to fit? I believe the stock MC injectors are 280's.

You have 147 hp AT THE WHEELS? What kind of mods did you do, is it turbocharged?

I second Gardus' question. I just dyno'd my 2003 Cooper (non-S) today and got a mere 108.3hp at the wheels w/ max torque @ 103.3ft.-lb. That's with a BMP intake, Milltek Header, Magnaflow Cat-back, MTH "Tuner" file, Red Line 10w30 and 91 octane fuel.

Huh... I got ~110 hp and 108 ft/lbs on my best pull with the Promini intake, MTH, and Borla cat-back... This was at 70 degree F... My two other pulls were 108 and 107 hp, with a similar torque number.

Soon to go on are a custom ported/polished S head (no difference to the Cooper head, just better valves), Cooper Schrick cam, MTH remap, and OEM header with gutted pre-cat. I'll dyno mine again sometime after those mods go on... I'm looking for a 10-15 whp gain from that, but we'll see...

I shall stay tuned for your next dyno results. I assume MINI's factory hp/torque specs are measured at the crank, but I still found my numbers less than impressive. However, the bottom line is the car is good fun to drive. The "seat o' the pants dyno" outweighs all else;-)

Please post these numbers in the MTH area...I know many people are waiting for real numbers. I have been waiting months to hear about actual dyno runs, and have now put the $$ elsewhere due to lack of factual data.

Has anyone dyno'ed their Cooper with MTH and then done a second pull with the MTH removed? I ask because these numbers you're posting look like stock numbers after adding a couple of bolt-ons.

My own numbers, which were for MTH with NO engine mods, showed a max HP of 101, torque 100. Considering a 15% driveline loss, that would mean I had no gains at all over stock ECU.
