05 tranny in 02 Cooper?

It looks like I may need to swap out the transmission in my 02 Cooper. Any ideas if the newer Getrag 5sp tranny will fit?

So what did you end up doing? Another Midlands or a new Getrag?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: They changed alot of things in the way the motor mounts to attach the Getrag to the 05+ MC. It will cost you a lot more than its worth to put a Getrag in a car that had a Midlands.

Well....I found a solution to my tranny problems. I traded my MINI for an S2000. I am not an anti MINI guy, I swear, but that car was nothing but problems.

1.At 80k the original tranny failed, car is unusable
2.Weeks spent getting jerked around by various parts shops searching for replacement
3.ASAP motors in Texas sends me one and it's for the S, won't bolt up
4.ASAP won't return my calls, my only transportation is still down
5.I buy from another source that is more responsive
6.Used tranny goes in and fails 3 days later
7.Get yet another tranny which after a few days starts making a whining noise in 5th
8.I occasionally can't shift into any gear
9.Car gets traded in
10.S2000 is completely problem free

What a hugely disappointing way to end my MINI saga. I bought it new in 02 and loved it. With every squeak, rattle, airbag light, coolant leak, overheat, etc, I forgave the car. This transmission thing broke the camels back. I'm a Honda man once again.

This is exactly why I sold my 9/2002 production 2003 Cooper and bought a new 2005 with the Getrag 5-speed.

Let us know what you think of the S2000 after you put 80K miles on it.

Any car can have problems. Who knows, maybe my S2000 will turn into a pile by 80k. That said, I've owned several hondas before. My most recent was a 95 del Sol that I put 120k on. It was dead reliable and never had any major issues. I sold it to buy the MINI. If I had to put money on it I'd bet on my 2002 S2000 over my old 2002 MINI Cooper any day. Again, as i've stated before, I don't hate MINI and I'm not a troll. I am a very disappointed MINI enthusiast.

Yeah, very doubtful the S2000 will have major problems in just 80k
