Which exhausts/intakes will fit an '05 MC?

Hi Everyone,

I'm expecting delivery of an '05 MC in a few months. Which aftermarket intakes/exhausts will fit it? Does anyone have any reviews or sound clips? I want something that sounds good (quiet-to-medium loudness, no drone when cruising, etc.) So far the best candidates for the exhaust are RSpeed and Miltek, but I've heard Helix makes more HP, but is very noisy. Any comments based on firsthand knowledge would be greatly appreciated. NO "YOU SHOULD BUY/HAVE BOUGHT AN S!" comments!

Thanks!

any intakes that will fit a pre 05 MC will fit yours. I don't know if the exhaust hangers changed on the MC for 04 like the did on the MCS. otherwise all exhausts that fit the pre 05s will work too.

You can try listening to the sound clips for the exhausts for MCS...

Yeah, I think any intake will work on the 05 MC, except if you do a drop in filter because they changed the shape of the air box. I have a K&N typhoon and I love it. Sounds great. I'm on the fence about exhausts now, partly because I can't get a straight answer about what fits, and partly becuase the intake has a great sound and I don't want it to get MUCH louder than it is already. From what I hear, the Miltek would be ideal but we need to know which fit and which do not. There are some sound clips floating around if you search MC and exhaust.

Good luck!

should look at ....

Myminiparts.com just came out with their own exhaust system just over 500 bucks - worth looking at. Nice bends, clean design and very well made. I missed out hearing the prototype - but the guys that heard it said great sound while maintaining acceptable daily street levels and no interior resonance.

They are also about to release a CAI using an ITG filter that will be enclosed drawing air only from the vent and the standard feed - guaranteeing no engine bay air. I have their CAI #2 with zero complaints.

Peter's doing some kool stuff.

I have a Miltek exhaust on my '05 MCc. Fit just fine except for some minor problem with some bracing, which is convertable specific.

Are you talking about CAI for a MCS? Original poster is asking about MC. If you are talking about an MC, can't wait to see it. Would love to get one.

the BMP/ProMINI intake does NOT fit an 05

just dont want you to spend alot on it then find out the hood wont close with it on.

i just purchased my Cobalt MC intake from MOSS and i'll be sure to post a review when i have it installed. 89.99 for it and thats a steal compared to most of the intakes out there!

I'd be interesed in seeing a write up with some pics. Although I spoke to Peter at MyMiniParts and he said they should have something nice for '05 Coopers in about 2 months.

i think this will do the job just fine. i'm probably going to make up some kinda cover to prevent and water from splashing upwards onto the intake, so i'll have to post plans for that too.....

heres a pic of the intake.....

it says 02-04 cooper only, but from the instructions, i'll only need to make a new bracket, the intake tube is still 2.5 inches....

I've considered that one before. However, just as you've said, contaminants, plus the fact that it would be drawing hot air directly from the engine would seem to negate any gains it offered. At least in my mind.

no, it still sucks air in from the air intake that comes from the front of the grill, the duct still goes directly to the filter, so you still have cool air going in.

now that i have it installed, i dont think there will be any problem with contaminates unless the car is submerged in water up to the throttle body, which i dont think will happen any time soon.

i'll post pics tomarrow of the install.

the bracket thats welded to the intake it pointless. i cut it off with the dremel and its firmly attached with the pipe clamps and the tube to the intake, sounds AWESOME!!!!!

i fell a bit more power in the low end too. i'm very pleased. i would highly sugguest getting this one!!!

Pipercross is regarded as the best intake when it comes to the MC. JCW uses a pipercross filter on their JCW MC's. I have had mine for almost 3 years, and it still runs like it's brand new.

mines good for me, and its got a ice smoth trasnition from the filter down a gentle bent thru some very smooth pipe into the throttle body, and it still picks up cool air from the grille........sounds good to me

I've had that Moss intake on my '03 MC for a couple of years now. I don't know about HP increases, but the sound was nice, at least until the Borla exhaust arrived to drown it out. It's a nice solid unit, though, fits great, and the filter is pretty easy to remove for cleaning.

I'm planning on the Viper Pipercross for my '05 when it arrives.

I'm on aim...where are you?

I'm currently working on importing the silicone intake tube upgrade for the PiperX....they have a great filter, so im gonna finally boost intake up a tiny bit with the smooth silicone piping which shouldnt take on too much heat.

ok, sry rally, i had to tweak my intake some more and take pics, here they are....

does that gap between the motor mount and the filter look adequate?

i dont have someone to rev the motor for me so i cant see which way the motor torques to see if that would be too close to the motor mount or not......does anyone know which way or how much that driver side mount twists?

i got rid of that hokey mini tag (almost fell of anyways) to make room for pushing the filter farther down the tube to get a better bit on it. also, i scuffed up the coating a bit to let the filter grab better, it was slipping off to easy before.

doesnt appear to be too close to the hood to rub, it looks to be about the same hieght as the stock air box. i'll wait a week and see if theres any scuffing on the underhood panel.

other than that, its an awesome kit and it sounds so much better than the factory stuff....now i need to do my exhaust. i'll save that for another time....

if you can help out at all with the clearance issues and the motor mount stuff, please post asap so i can get this all straightned out!

I just put on a Magnaflow on my 05 MC this weekend. No problems, did it on jack stands and it took about an hour taking my time.

Sound is great, and while I am unsure of power increase, the throttle response is night and day. I do feel like the car is quicker, and the sound is great. The wieght diff. between stock and the magnaflow is unbelievable.

Plus I got it for 360.00 Shipped!!!!
