Coding question......

help me understand.... this is my first German car I have attempted to mess with. I am semi car tech savvy but I’m not understanding the coding situation. As in, so cars come with stuff that’s not active for the factory and we can activate them. Maybe someone could help explain this?

I have played with coding just a little bit, I installed a factory alarm, rear foglight and activated the auto up feature for the windows. To answer your question yes there is a few options that can be activated in the BCM. First you need to buy a cable and software. I used Mikes easy bmw software. There are some good info on the site about coding and some of the options that can be changed via coding.

The Bimmercode smartphone app + a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter will be the easiest way to start coding your Mini. The developer has created several shortcuts that make it very easy to enable or disable features. It's very cool, and you can always reset to the defaults if you want to.

Interesting technology. Does this app have any value for a Gen1 R53?

Oh, probably not. The app is for gen 3 Minis and BMWs listed on this page.
