Hi All
Has anyone had their MINI re-coded by a dealer to change the options (follow-me home lamps, opening/closing windows, etc.)? If so, would you mind telling what your dealer charged? My dealer is charging me $75.00 to re-code my MINI Cooper S for a factory alarm I'm installing. Was told it will take about one hour. Sounds high to me.
Thanks
Charles

P.S.
To make things a little clearer. The dealer coded my MINI when I picked it up four weeks ago. I’m installing a factory alarm myself. Install time for the alarm is 1.5 hours. Getting the car re-coded after I install it.

My dealer said that when my mini comes in that there is'nt any charge for changing the settings. That it is all part of the setup of the car, and you should'nt be paying ether...

I was told "first time free, after that a charge - best to wait and review all the options to get it done right the first time"

That's ridiculous !!!

Your dealer is ripping you off !

Global Imports in Atlanta didn't charge a dime neither did Ferman in FL

75 an hour is not bad for a bmw service tech. IF they have to reprogram because of something you need to do thats the way it goes. Wish I could just hook up my laptop They should do it the 1st time at no charge though, if it is just to get your stuff set the way you want

Motor City MINI said they'd re-code my programmable options any time I feel the urge, with no charge at all. Sounds good to me, also sounds like that dealerships that're charging SUCK

$0.02

Pretty generous. My dealer will only do it 1 time for free. I don't know how long it takes them, Just know 75 an hour is not bad for BMW labor. I haven't asked what they would charge for reprogramming.

I also did the factory alarm retrofit myself, the dealership charged me $45 to program the software, they told me that reprogramming the system for follow me home lamps and things like that are free, but loading the software to program the alarm would cost me.

Retrofitting the alarm is real easy, the only part that took a lot of time was replacing the wiper stork with the led.

I had the Daytime Running Lights and the Comfort Open programmed last week in our '02 Cooper CVT (August '02 build) for free while they were updating our DME with software update version 32.1.

I forgot to also have them enable the "Follow me home" lights, but oh well, that will have to wait for the next service visit.

My dealer did not charge for the re-programming items but I don't know if they will charge me the second time around. I hope not.
