drivetrain question any info is appreciated
I'm converting my non s 5 speed to a 6 speed my question is it possible to use the R50 flywheel and pressure plate and use a r53 clutch disk now i know that the r50 disk is 200mm and the r53 is 215mm but has anyone bothered to look into it ?
I do not think that would be a good combination because the OE R53 clutch driveplate is solid and if you put that on a solid R50 flywheel there would be NO driveline damping at all...... so lots of NVH & would probably destroy the Getrag gearbox.....
are those gear boxes really that sensitive ? I have another "non mini" car that's making 600+ solid plates and disks on a stock gear box that that are known for going bad been driving on for a few years now.
im not looking to make cazy power or anything the mini is my daily im just wondering if I can get away with just swapping the disk and trans
I'd first try comparing part numbers.
Go to OEM parts and they'll have them listed.

Scroll down the 'Series' window and select the models.

If it's Midlands, the bolt pattern doesn't match. You need all-R53 parts from the flywheel back. Either the OEM dual mass and matching clutch, or else a matching aftermarket version -- best bet is the Valeo.
I don't know about Getrag.

This should help if you haven't already seen it. I attempted this when my throwout bearing blew itself apart. I ended up replacing the clutch kit as theres a handful of little parts that are needed to make it work properly.

NO you need a cooper S clutch and flywheel to make it work. We have done more of these conversions than anyone and it is really nice when done.
We just use the valeo kit as it is cost effective and has all you need.
