So, my block is getting surfaced. I was looking at the clutch and flywheel. The fiber disk looks good as well as the pressure plate. However, the flywheel has some bluing on the friction surface. It feels smooth with no grooves, but is this ok to reuse? No problems with it before I pulled it out.
Some people have done it on other cars, but I'd personally get a new one if was to keep a dual mass. The main problem with a dual mass flywheel is that they are known for chatter and even tho yours was ok when you pulled it out, do you really want to gamble another transmission drop if it goes bad?
According to a company who makes some, you can deglaze it and re-use once, but I'm not sure if they reccomend resurfacing.
They cannot be resurfaced....
A gentle rubbing with a scotch-brite pad is about all you can do....if yu have high spots..I'd replace it...the costs have dropped for the dmf and even the single conversion kits...
The springs in the back are wear items...heat weakens them...and if you put it together and had a "Chewbacca" sound...then the dmf has failed...and time to do it again ....in a shop, imo replacing is a nobrainer when you pay for labour, but not as clear-cut for diy....then it comes down to time...and if it goes when it -10° in December, do you want to drop a subframe....
