Is it worth to pay for 2010 MINI Cooper Hardtop Extended Maintenance Program?

When I purchased my Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) car from the dealer, I had no idea that the car didn't cover the extended maintenance plan. CPO only covers anything related to the power train, only. I bought a 2010 CPO MINI Cooper Hardtop two days back. The car came with 14000 miles, and the maintenance schedule is expiring in 3 months, in April. So the dealer offered me 6 year/100K extended maintenance plan for $1695.

I live in the SF city and I commute to work for about 80 miles roundtrip, 3-4 times a week. I do not plan on keeping the car more than two years. I can barely even see myself putting 100K miles on this car in the next two years.

I am wondering if it's worth to pay the $1695 for the extended maintenance given that I will only use the car for two years? And if I pay the $1695 and with the money I paid for the car, eventually I don't really win a lot money compared to buying a brand new car. In my opinion it's a no win situation for me for owning a CPO car which is from 2010 with 14K miles.

Can anyone make a suggestion?

Is it auto or a stick? If auto I say no and do brake changes and oil changes yourself or at an independent MINI shop.

No it is not worth it with either a manual or auto. Do the work yourself or take it to a MINI specialist. Just make sure you change the oil every 5K faithfully.

This why I say no.

kRaZy

No way. You would have to be kRaZy!!! Also NOT crazy to get the extended WARRANTY if you have an "S", as MINI still have not fixed the "engine self-destruct" at 36K and 52K (right after OE warranty expires). But this is the non-S Forum...

Extended maintenance for two years (driving 15k miles per year) would cover 3 oil changes (Every 10k - but you should do it every 5k) and one brake job (Every 30k), so just keep your money.

That's a warranty issue not a maintenance issue. If you are concerned with that type of problem you should be looking at the extended warranty. They are separate things you can purchase.

Well for me the extended maintenance has been worth it. I purchased my car new and took delivery late April like you I have a pretty long commute ( 54 miles each way) in less than a year I've put 25 k miles on it I do oil changers every 5k so far mini has paid for 2 and new wipers and new parking bulbs ect... Without the extended warranty and the extended maintenance programs I would be out of warranty before my 1st anniversary.
Best of luck hope you enjoy yours as much as I do
