Valeo Clutch?
Valeo Clutch?
Hi,
I am about to do the transmission swap from my 2002 MC 5 speed to the 6 speed.
I was wondering if the R53 Valeo and flywheel clutch will work into my R50 with the 6 speed transmission? I cannot find any information on this.
Please let me know thanks.

Wow, nobody?
I was told to use the R50 clutch to install into the 6 speed trans to put in my R50, but not sure which flywheel to get from R50 or R53.
Anyone know?
So I guess I will look around for a R50 Valeo clutch.
Let me know thanks.

Okay,

Thanks.

Hi Scott.
We´ve done the swap on our two R50, and you can put the Valeo R53 kit with no problem. It´s a single mass flywheel with springs clutch discs. You will notice it softer than OEM R50 clutch.
I think you know all the parts you need to do the swap, but here´s listed again:
R53 6-spd gearbox (in Europe is better ´05-´06 gearbox because is closer, I don´t know there)
R53 Driveshafts (x2)
R53 Complete clutch and flywheel
R53 Engine and gearbox mounts
R53 Starter
R53 gear **** (or another)
R53 gear lever base and bowden wires (x2)
In my opinion is the best mod that can be done to a Cooper, much more better than modyifing and tuning the engine. If you can put a Torsen type diff at the same time. Wow.

I thought I can reuse my stock 2002 condition "A" gear box and use the 6 speed cables which is this: #25-11-7-531-707 and 25-11-7-531-708. Hope this is okay to use my stock condition "A" gear box?
I am little concerned about the wires what need to be done or what I need. My 6 speed already came with the transmission Backup Light Switch part #123117527716. So I am not sure what is "bowden wires" (x2)?
I have the 2005 6 speed transmission and just installed the OBX LSD. I cannot wait to do swap the transmissions, but the cold weather here is terrible.
Thanks, I was about to start on the swap this week or next week.

What i don´t know is stock condition "A" gear box. Maybe a 2002 Cooper S gearbox?.
Oh okay, so that what you mean "bowden wires" refer to "shifting cables". I am clear on that now thanks.
The condition "A" gear box in the early model has the white reinforcement ribs and the later model has the condition "B" black smooth box.
I believe that the white condition "A" box are use in the same Mini Cooper "Base" and "S".
Just curious, did you have to do anything modify the electrical wires?

I didn´t need to modify anything on the electrical wires. I suppose dou you talk about the rear light switch. In european cars is just to plug&play with all of necessary parts.
I don´t know what is the condition A and condition B reinforcements or black smooth box. Can you post a pic please?. I´m very curious about it.

Okay, I was not sure about the wiring cause I saw somewhere that someone did some wiring modify.
Ok, I know what is. I don´t know which we used in the Cooper, but in the One we put a racing item as you will see attached. Very quick and totally accurate gear changes
Oh wow, I never see that before. Just curious if there is a link for this?
Of course. Here it is: http://www.cae-racing.com/shifter_mini.htm
Thanks for the help.
