I Finally did it! I just got back from the muffler shop, and wow. Best $40 I have ever spent, I took of the resonator and I think next I'm just going to get a new muffler. Since no one has posted a video, i decided to post my video on youtube so everyone can hear what this sounds like!

What did it sound like before? could you describe the change?

It's tough to tell from a vid, but to me it sounds much louder than stock, which surprises me. I always figured the rear silencer did the bulk of the silencing, and the resonator is there to tune the sound.

That said, the tone you have is fantastic! It's exactly what I want, and exactly what I was hoping to get from a resonator delete. You are the only R50 owner who has bothered to post a vid of this mod (that I have found) so I thank you.

I want a little raspyness, but not any more volume. I know this sounds like a contradiction. Is it really much louder than stock, or is the low and direct location of the camera mic fooling me? How does it sound in the car? Does it drone on the highway? A soundclip from inside the car with windows up and down would be awesome (hint hint).

 

Actually, the resonance from the garage is probably what is throwing me. I need to replace my cat to resonator gasket anyhow, and I'm handy with my Mig, so I might do this soon myself :-)

Wow, I had no idea I had this many replies!

So I'll reply in order.

Vicko5000 - The Change was noticable but subtle. It became a little louder and raspier. But I would like it to be louder (new muffler soon?) it sounds beautiful when accelerating though. (I'll try and make a video soon).

Blackbomber - The only thing I did to this car so far is the resonator delete and I put in an ALTA Foam Filter. And I think the mic is fooling you, but I will make another video soon and I will post it on here. But if you want the same volume and get that raspiness. THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!

Hey guys I'm new to NAM have had my mini R50 2004 for abt 6 months and I love every min of driving it....after getting on to NAM I realized all the great mods that can be done .....so to start with I jus did the resonator delete and I love it....it jus makes so much of a difference in the sound ...I'm gonna add a magnaflow muffler soon ....also planning for CAI and some cosmetic mods all thanks to NAM users for the great ideas!
