I got a nice present for my Cooper this X-Mas and I spent the whole day after X-mas in & out my MINI.

The step by step pictures that Peter provided made the install a breeze. I tried to video tape the whole install and when things started getting a bit difficult, I decided I wouldn't have enough time and tape to worry about recording each step.

The hardest part of the install was probably getting the wires through the inside of the car. Peter recommended to cut and solder the wires again, but I didn't want to mess with the wiring. Luckily, I had previously tried to install driving lights myself and the hole I left was PERFECT to slide all the wires through. I had to struggle so much to get them though and I was scared that squeezing it in like that was going to mess up the wiring, but it didn't.

After that step, everything was a breeze.

THE DRIVE:
To put it in short, COOPER S OWNERS WATCH OUT! (unless you have Nitrous as well )

The first time I drove it fast, I was SHOCKED, I was on the phone with Peter asking when it's OK to floor it, he simpy said, anytime, have fun with it. At a stop light, I floored it on 1st gear and did the fattest burnout and flew! I was scared because I see sirens way behind me and I pull over..... it was an ambulance, thank god.

My MINI feels so different having Nitrous on. With the front of the car being higher than the back now, literally, it's like that now. Like my MINI is holding his head up high proudly Might sound strange, but that's reallly how it feels.

I think the M7 Nitrous is perfect for anyone on a budget not being able to spend thousands on a turbo. This is my daily driver and I don't drive fast all the time. Which is why it is such a perfect mod for me. I can turn it on whenever I feel like it and it is TOTALLY safe.

I'm off to have fun now and install a short shifter. I'll try to record the drive and post it on the net. For now, here are the pics...

Right now, excuse the intake until I get a new one. The Green Twister has some serious rubbing issues and the hose is wearing down again. I had to put duct tape on the heat shield of the intake since it was rubbing. It will be replaced soon. The intake is where I inserted the nozzle for the nitrous to spray. I'm currently on the smallest nozzle for now.

On the dash is where I can turn the system on/off. The parcel shelf is the only place I could find to put the VCN-1000 module. It fit perfectly.

And of course, the bottle, very clean install from the back. Easily taken on/off when needed. I might relocate the bottle to the right back seat for easier access.

That's it. I'm off...

I'd do something to protect the bundle of wires/hoses other than a few zip-ties. I would not feel good about having those things crunched between the bonnet and seal for the below windshield air inlets.

At best those exposed and crunched wires do not look like a very clean installation, and at worst it could cause mechanical/electrical problems.

Other than that, i'm sure it is fun! Don't empty your bottle too fast!

Hello, jivan Ivan

Looking at your photos, I would not worry too much about the exposed wiring, no harm can or will be done to them in that location and I'm sure you plan to tidy it up. Installation vs FUN... I know I'd install it for fun first... then clean it up... gotta feel the RUSH!

Nitrous is a good thing
Nitrous is a fun thing
Nitrous is a good AND fun thing!

Welcome to the club!
It's so difficult not using it "all" the time.
I'm learning to be cheap in my usage. Saving it
for those very special times. This can get to
be an expensive, but very exhilirating, habit.
There's some pics of my install here: http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/gallery_912.html

Try taking that same approach when packing your parachute for skydiving and I promise you will feel the RUSH!

There is NO safety concerns with his wiring.
Those wires will not "CRUSH"

And packing a chute is more crucial than not housing some insulated wiring.

Do you know anything about automotive electronics and wiring? Do not scare the guy, he's obviously installed a very cool mod and I doubt that the manufacturer would include "Crushable" wiring, that's just silly!

I agrre with you Yucca!!!!

It looks good but I would clean up the wiring, and mount the on/off switch, and Module out of the way. I have been in a couple of accidents in my life and anything that is not bolted down will fly (Think pull out radios, Stuff on the dash, and in the trunk). Those wires may not "Crush" but they will rub on the bonnet and over time that could wear away the insulation leaving exposed wires.

It is better to be safe then sorry and do it right the first time.

Yes I do. I have never seen a professional installation of extended lengths of bundled wiring not protected by at least a few wraps of electrical tape. I also have never seen unprotected bundles of wiring routed so that it is subjected to being put under pressure by moving parts such as the bonnet, as in this case.

An easy way to clean up the installation would be to:

1) wrap the wiring with a roll of electrical tape
2) cut a notch beneath the rubber seal and run the wiring underneath the seal instead of between the seal and the bonnet.

I do not intend to scare anyone, just to offer some helpful advice to ensure a safe and reliable installation.

NOS is a brand name for a Nitrous Oxide kit. sort of like in certain parts of the country soda, pop, is called "COKE" whether its Pepsi, Mountain Dew whatever its called coke. This name brand was made more popular by F&F. M7 kit uses Venom(another manufacturer of N2O kits). This kit differs from F&F. The F&F(Nitrous Oxide Systems or N.O.S.) uses a push button method to inject. This method is more dangerous to your engine....push the button and miss a shift BLOWN ENGINE........push the button and your fuel mixture is too lean BLOWN ENGINE. The M7 kit is all computer monitored the on/off switch enables it to use it you put the pedal to floor. if its on and the pedal isn't floored it won't inject. if the computer detects lean condition with it floored it won't inject. plus you can monitor your fuel mixture all the time with the little blinky lights. I have the kit and love it. I did a bunch of research on safety and uses of N2O(various brands) and if you use it right its safe.

MANY, MANY, MANY THANK YOUS, GRENDEL!!! Really appreciate your explanation being very complete (I dig that you're a customer yourself). Two more questions, GRENDEL (sorry):

*Can the M7 Nitrous accomodate the CVT effectively (as beneficial to the CVT as to the 5- and 6-speeds?)?

*Using it properly would entail _________?

Thanks again , erik

*Seriously, does M7 Nitrous differ from NOS (NOS from The Fast and the Furious/2F 2F, that is)?

Hey peeps

Seriously......yes and no

Nitrous in it self is not different from brand to brand, whats different is how it's mannaged and controled...
What the M7/venom system has, that no other brand can touch is a very sophisticated computerized control
system. The system will monitor your O2 sensor, the TPS (Throttle possitioning Sensor) and finaly the
fuel injectors. All these signals get processed and compared to our Mini Cooper specific programming
making sure that the vehicle never goes in to a lean mode by changing the pulse width of the fuel injectors.
If the injector get's driven past it's maximum delivery potential(100%) and a lean mode is detected
a signal is sent to the solenoid that interupts the flow of Nitrous. Safe Safe Safe no chance of burning a hole in your pistons or an over-fill of the cylinders with Nitrous when you miss a shift Which would lead to.......Kaabooom.

There is fair amount of nitrous systems on the market but none as sophisticated as the M7/Venom system
and to top it of it's been engineered for the Mini Cooper to give you the best performance per dollar spent.

The regular warranty that commes with the system is a 90 day limited warranty, but with an amazing
track record of their other systems, M7 has an exclusive 1 year no B.S Warranty to give that extra security
in your purchase.

And as always feel free to call me if you need some more questions answered.

Peter Horvath

As for the CVT? I don't know you probably should talk to Peter about that, he has posted and leaves his phone number.

Use it correctly? I did a write up "Is nitrous 4U a M7 VENOM review. its on page 2 of the performance mods section. I don't know how to link you to it. but it gives a brief "what I found out" section on N2O. I'm by no means an expert but if you have anymore questions I bought a book on nitrous and will help how I can.

Wow Peter....so many new and exciting things you guys are putting out! If Erik808 gets one.....I gotta get one too!!! I can't let him smoke me at the track (should I ever make it out there).

Erik....let me know if you call Peter....i'm tired of flooring it trying to merge on the H1 and getting very little response.

Hi everyone,

Well, I can say that it's been so far so good. No engine problems at all, but I think I'll have to update you guys on it when I get more mile on the system. I've only had the system on for 2 days so it's pretty early to be saying anything but I have complete confidence in the system.

As for the install, of course I'm going to clean it up I've just been so dam tired from installing it I thought I should take a break.

Yucca - thanks for the advice, I was thinking more of like plastic coverings, do you think that would be more bulkier than the electrical tape?

AC_MINI - The Nitrous kit costs $800, $799 to be exact. I've been using it daily and the only speed shop I know right now charged me $50 to fill up the 10lb bottle. I have to find another place to get it filled since it usually costs just $25 for a fill. I think Peter explained how the kit is harmless to the engine (unless you use the purple nozzle)

I'll be cleaning up the install in the middle of the week. So far I think I better cut down on the usage of the kit. I said I wouldn't have it on the whole day, but..... I've been using it every time I'm in the car.

If I had only one mod to do on the Cooper, it would be the M7 Nitrous. Why? Try it for yourself.

It's one of those mods that you feel good about and know that every penny you spent on it was well worth it.

I'll be switching to a bigger nozzle tomorrow, I'll keep everyone posted.

*jivanivan: Thanks for keeping us all updated! I want my MC to bust out but priority first and foremost is in its well-being (I'm sure that that's everyone's priority)...

*GRENDEL: Thanks for the quick reply & for that thorough feedback of yours (per your thread)! I'll PM Peter right after submitting this -- thanks again, GRENDEL!

*keikilee: ha ha Let's Hawaii Raceway Park it anytime! All in the name of fun ha ha I'll ask Peter if this is sensible for the CVT...

*minihune: Thanks for the link!
