Way to have driver's side exterior door lock button work

Is there a way (easy/not too expensive) to activate or replace the button on the exterior handle so I can unlock the driver's side door without using the key fob?

Thanks!!

Perhaps you need to be a little more explicit about the problem you are trying to solve. I couldn't figure out what you want. I believe you must use the remote or the key to open the locked door from the outside unless you have the Comfort Access option.

I have the comfort access option and the little black buton on the passenger side works fine (unlocking the door with the key in my pocket) but the driver side doesn't work. Maybe its broken? It has never worked from day one though...

I'ld say it is definately broken. If it is still in warrenty the dealer will fix it for no charge.

What year is your car and how many miles on it?

Also if it has not worked from the day you got the car why have you not had it fixed under warranty?

As for having it fixed it could be that the button switch is broken or the wireing is unpluged. If it is the first thing then letting the dealer fix it is the way to go as the door handles are not easy to remove and replace.

Now with all that said. I sometimes have to hold mine longer than I think I should have to because of the way the cars computer poles all the switches in the car. But that is normal.

Bummer, I should have brought it up to the dealer's attention when I had my last service. I thought I read somewhere that the driver's side button was disabled because of some safety concern about locking people in the car...

Its a 2007 non-S with 17k miles.

Thanks!!!!

No such thing.

But there is the fact that the button can be programed to unlock only the drivers door or both doors. This is a safety feature so that someone can not get in the car from the passenger side and mug you while you are trying to unlock the car if set to only unlock the drivers door.

Now there is also the fact that if the key fob is sitting in the front of the car then you can not lock the car from the door as the car is smart enough to know that the key is in the car and should not be locked.

Since you are under warranty all work should be done for free.

I have to agree with Schatzy, take it back to the dealer since it is still under warranty and have them take a look at it. There is also the button on your turn signal that you might be able to adjust the problem yourself. Read your owners manual and see how to do it. I do not have the comfort access option, but I did set it so that my key to unlock both doors instead of having to press the button twice to unlock my passenger side.

Comfort Access key/fobs have a replaceable battery, be sure that it is not a sign of a weak battery.
