An Air Intake worth getting for the MC...
Recently I purchased THE SHITTIEST INTAKE on the market -- Green's TWISTER INTAKE. Installation wasn't too bad, but this doesn't mean the parts were engineered well at all. After fussing & waiting for a few months, I received the first PROMINI/ BMP Performance Intake that outmotoring.com got their hands on. I installed it in the dark the night I got the package, then took the MC for a test run...let me tell you it is probably THE BEST INTAKE on the market so far; It has a substantial increase in power and sound, unlike the Green Twister. PROMINI/ BMP designed and engineering the intake patiently, making this system the best yet...it's a must have for those owners not looking to go too crazy with the mods just yet. THANKS!
italianjobmini - I'm glad that you are happy with your intake and appreciate the quality of the unit.
cooptime - italianjobmini purchsed it from outmotoring.com (one of our ProMini distributors) - we both sell it for $198 and it does come with install instructions.
8ball - I'll try to post a pic of the intake tommorow or monday at the latest.
Cheers
Casey

italianjobmini - did you try any others beside the Green Twister? I know a number of Cooper owners are happy with the results they've had with the Twister. How's the sound on the BMP? Any pictures?
Do you have the 5 - speed or CVT?
From the looks of the ProMINI/BMP, it looks like a pretty simple install right into the throttle body and another connection into the resonator box.

dandp - the only intake I've tried previous the the ProMINI/BMP gem is that
P.O.S. known as the Green Twister
The Green Twister (whose instructions required one of Hitler's henchmen)
resembled something that might come from the minds of an HVAC tech...
it was ugly duct piping. The Green Twister shall no longer be mentioned around these parts...
As an auto engineering student, the air flow that ProMINI intake receives is quckly directed to the throttle body; the removal of the longer throttle body connector, which is replaced by a stubby silicone coupling give the MC better pick-up that YOU CAN ACTUALLY FEEL. At the range of RPM from 3000-4000 in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and even 5th it really does growl...such a beautiful sound.
Installing the ProMINI/BMP intake was straightforward: all instructions were there, and were straightforward. In my eager state, I installed my intake the very night I received the package. Installation began at 10 and end around 10:35.
It was a good feeling to notice better performance from the ProMINI/BMP intake
I'll try for pics tomorrow

IJM / Eric, any pics on your new intake? It would be interesting to know if it fits the CVT. I am running the Monster Force Intake now, after trying the Green Twister. It's nice to get the extra RPM's in the 3000 band, isn't it?

Wow this is great I'd love to see more performance oriented posts for the MC. And no I don't want a MCS!! So no posts!
I have to agree with italianjobmini the green twister thing just doesn't look like a quality intake. I just can't see the clothes dryer type tubing being very good for air flow.
This ProMINI intake seems like a quality product, but we need more info!! We need pics and dyno runs!!!

After doing a dyno run with the Twister, I can tell you while there was no true gain on my specific car - actual driving was a different story. Same goes for the 2 other intakes I've put on the car as far as "feel" goes.
I'm gonna bump the MC mods thread with current info in any case for other MC owners out there...

Eric,
The site loaded for me but none of the pictures did.
The BMP/ProMini intake about $198.95

but does it sound half as great as the green twister, or have what I consider the best performance filter in the industry to back it up like the green twister. I agree the 'drier duct work' for the green twister is seriously bad, but for lack of a nice mandrel bent metal work approach it will do.
and really, why did an 'auto engineering' student need directions. and there are great english directions on the net, so you can just throw out those paper ones if you really find them a hassle....
I cant tell exactly from the picture, but it looks like the promini is exactly like the green twister, only it gets its air right from the engine bay. It would be an incredibly simple procedure to have the green twister do the exact same thing, but if you have ever driven the green twister on a cold night you will know why its drawing air in from outside.

one last thing, look how cheap the actual filter on that promini intake looks, then compare it to the green twister filter. Doesn't take a 'material science engineer' to figure out which one is better. heh
sorry, I am just not sure why you are busting on the green twister so bad, when it looks like you paid more than me for a shoddier product that is simply missing the crappy duct work (which an engineering student could easily find a solution around).

Until I see honest dyno numbers proving otherwise, I'd be willing to bet that you're not going to get over 3-5hp gain in the MC. With that minimal potential improvement, they are all nearly the same--it's just a matter of how much cash you have to waste--and if you're concerned how pretty it looks under the hood.
I spent $139 on the Monster MINI intake and love it for the throaty growl alone--that growl puts a big satisfied smile on my face. It's got the largest K&N filter of all intakes out there and no restrictive & convoluted air intake path.

In adition to the stock setup I have tried the Pipercross induction and green twister.
Observations.
Pipercross. Great sound, but after I installed the Rogue exhaust, the intake sound becomes almost irelevant. The pipercross seems a bit peppier than stock above 4k rpm.
Green twister. Can't say much about the sound because I haven't run it with the stock exhaust. Performance wise, I think it has better throttle response at 3500 rpm than either the stock or the pipercross.
I am pleasently surprised that the green twister delivers better gas mileage. I was averaging 29.45 mpg with the stock (1500 miles under break-in conditions) and 29.63 with the piperercross (2200 miles). I now have put 2500 miles with the green twister and am averaging 31.52 mpg. I can live with that.
Anyone else have any mileage comparisons?
Andy
