Okay... I know I'm creating a sh&$*t storm here but I'm just curious.... for all of us, non S types, what's the highest HP rating that a regular MC can attain? brief description would be great too....... and pls. don't tell us "well, you should have gotten an S in the first place"

I saw a dyno posted of the JCW Cooper in the UK with 140 HP -

Of course, you're going to get the responses that the Cooper tranny won't handle more than X amount without upgrades, etc. I have seen European adds claiming 145 HP Cooper with a chip...we shall see what hits these shore.

Bumpitty, bump-bump.

No worries, asaulo!

I'm betting many folks will be interested to know. I'm hoping a MC to muscle-up may be a great used deal within the next year or so!

Let's have it folks!

I would luv to see who has a Modded Cooper. It is cheaper on Insurance than an S and it should be a little lighter as well.

OK lateral thought. Has anybody put the getrag 6 speed onto a Cooper? Seems like an option that MINI could offer as part of the MC sport package.

Danp, I've seen that same dyno. What's with the red line. Is that a stock MINI Cooper putting out 133 hp? If so, What happened to the gray line mini spares coop. OOPS!

The highest actual whp for a Cooper from that dyno day was 107.1 whp, less than 7% more powerful than the completely stock Cooper that had 100.5 whp:

That would translate to higher WHP than any of those cars in merry old England.

It's hard to say exactley what that translates to, dyno's are best left to comparison only if done on the same car, on the same dyno, and under similar conditions.

Over in England they have some strange methods for calculating crank HP, for a FWD car though count on about 12-15% loss so if a mini cooper is making 109 at the wheels that is about 115-118 crank HP which is right on target.

My MCS will be 1881 for the year here in good ole NJ...21 male one 2 point ticket a year and half ago, that's with NJM

If there is 12-15% loss then 109 at the wheels is approx 122 at the crank.

All this is so confusing!! I just want more power out of my MC.. (though it
feels faster at 6500 miles than at 2000k

jurni - I would agree that my Cooper feels faster than when I first got it, even before I changed my exhaust at 6000 miles. And at 20K miles, it feels better still.

We've got a Cooper engine almost done that is going in the drag car. Higher compression pistons, crankshaft from an S, and few other bits and bobs, plus a wealthy amount of NOS. It should be going on the engine dyno within the next week. We are taking it to Sears Point to run on the thursday night before the ALMS/Speed World Challenge races for kicks.

No, dude, a full year. I remember in my early 20's and single with a brand new Mustang GT convertible fully loaded....my insurance was $4000! That was more monthly than my car payment. I also made a fraction of the money I do now...that Mustang put me in the poor house for many, many years AFTER I got rid of it.

jurni - at the time my car was dyno'd, I just had the Rogue Engineering exhaust on. Eric (from Helix) and I were wondering what might have caused the increase since according to Grassroots Motorsports, the Rogue didn't really add power. Not all base model Coopers are created equal evidently, some make more power than others out of the factory. But the Rogue Exhaust does kick butt...
