Diesel Conversion

I want to put the MINI/Toyota 1.4 turbo diesel and 6 speed tranny in my Cooper. Does anyone know if this has been done before? I know I will porbably need a half cut and new gas cap. Are the engine mounts the same? Any info or links would be great.

Thanks!

At first glance, the complexities and costs would seem to outweigh any possible efficiency gains.

Take pause and ask your self.

I think it'd be awesome to do a D swap! I'd want to find a wrecked R56 Cooper D though and stuff that into an R50!

I thought about that but R56 D would be much harder to find. I guess a diesel swap has not been done here. I read some where that the 1.4L diesel was specifically modified by BMW to fit the R50 and was mated to a cooper S 6 speed. I just wanted to know if anyone knew about the engine mounts, if they were the same.

Worst case regarding the engine mounts is you call a euro dealer and order the parts there. Check to see if RealOEM.com has the part numbers

Its a very under powered car, you would need a complete strip of a diesel car, i.e full wiring loom diesel tank and all pipework front panel rad intercooler etc etc.

The shells are the same but you would have to strip it right back and start with the wiring loom.

We specialise in breaking Minis here in the Uk and I've seen 2 x diesels as breakers for sale in the last 2 years.

Good luck
