NAM discount for parts at Classic MINI
NAM discount for parts at Classic MINI
Hi, Driving back from New York to Chicago (via I-90) today I thought it'd be nice to stop in Mentor check out the dealership and buy a parcel shelf, floor mats, and the JCW grill bits with the NAM discount
I figured, why pay for shipping when I'm driving right by....
It turns out that this discount is only applicable for accessories/parts that are shipped out via UPS
The parts rep explained the reasoning behind this, but I still don't get it. I guess I just don't see the difference. I'd think it's just as easy (if you're in the Mentor area) to stop by and pick up the accessories in person rather than having them boxed up and shipped out.
Personally, I'm more likely to buy more when I'm at the parts counter than when I'm online and the NAM discount savings at Classic are probably wiped out with shipping costs (especially for larger parts). At that point, for me, it's easier to drive to my local MINI dealer, get their less than Classic MINI discount (10% to 15% in Chicago) and have my part(s).
In the end all I ended up buying was the parcel shelf because I didn't want the hassle. The parts rep explained that this was my first attempt, so I was given the discount for my in person purchase.
I do have to say, that the parts rep was nice.
Any chance and having this rule lifted so that we can drop in and buy parts with the discount?
Thanks!

probably not likely.
The discount appears nice but I haven't been able to get them to even answer an email to verify prices for parts and confirm shipping costs.
Due to time constraints at work, email is the easiest way to inquire/followup with their parts department. Replies have been non-existent for over 2 weeks for my inquiry for ~$1000 in accessories. I guess I'll end up with a
attitude and end up going in to my local dealership next weekend and getting it locally.
Has anybody else had any better luck with Classic recently?

I've personally had great treatment at Classic. Depending on your locale, 20% plus shipping still beats 10% plus sales tax.
Most recent example? OEM alarm components, Sport Link bike rack, HEPA Cabin Filter, Euro front plate bracket for $600 shipped.
20708 Zip, in MD. YMMV.
Cheers,
Matthew Z.

ok, I'll have to retract that prior post. I blew off a boring conf call meeting and phoned Classic instead of waiting for their email reply. On the phone, they're super friendly and easy to work with. They created an account for me, took my order and gave me an estimated ship time all in under 10 minutes.
yeah, ive tried getting classic to let me buy the parts over the rhone and pay shipping, but just pick them up....no go, they wont! I'll just stick to going there in person and buying my parts from Jason.
MINI of Sterling is the same way, they offer a much better discount if you buy through mail order than they offer local club members (DCMM and BMWCCA). But you can't pick your order up in person... Highly irritating when I live 20 minutes away from them and my wife actually works just up the block from them...
