Heater control & ???

Need to understand which ***** control what for the heater?

The slide switch is heat, defrost, off. Got that. The rocker switch is the fan motor. Check.

So what are the two push pull ***** above these, and how do they do what? Any help most appreciated.

Is there any such thing as a copy of an origninal "owners manual"???

Send a pic - it depends on the year. In general the heater is the slide-out **** on the RIGHT. The LEFT slider (usually on the other side of the switch panel) is the choke. All the slider does is direct hot radiator water into the cabin heater and the fan blows across it, thereby warming that air.

As for an owner's manual, you really should invest in a Haynes Service Manual - they can be purchased on Amazon and eleswhere.

The pull **** opens the path for engine coolant to flow through the heater core. You obviously don't want coolant flowing through a radiator under the dash when its 90 outside. It's basically the red/blue ****/slider on a modern car. The slide switch just swings a baffle door to control where the air flow goes once the fan is on.

The other pull **** is the carburetor choke, looks like a fan blade logo on it.

The right **** with an X or "fan" logo is the heater valve control cable. In to open the valve (hot water to heater), pull out to close. The knb on the left is choke. Out to engage, in to disengage. the slide opens the air flow to glass, cab or closed

One MAJOR point that comes to mind...

One of those ***** is the choke....nothing to do with heat and if you have not figured that out yet.... wellllll

feel free to ask additional questions here

The "slide switch" is controling the one baffel in the heater to send heat to the feet or the windscreen (defrost)

I'd tell ya what way the heater pull worked 'cept after 4 years I figured out mine works opposit the factory spec....

You CAN buy a CD with a copy of the original owner's manual. It only works (yes today on 12/09/08) with Windows XP (no VISTA or MAC)

PM me questions and I'll try (I have the CD)

additional confusion

"choke" ... on an SU the first 1/3 of the choke does nothing to the mix it simply engages fast idle

i luv TO STIR IT UP.....

Is your heat off when **** is in then? I'm assembling my heater from spare parts being that mine did not have heat. I'd rather have it off when the **** is in. How would you reverse the way the cable pulls on the valve?

wELLLLLL

all I'd say is eye ball your valve and determine then how to run the cable. A 180 degree twist will swap the cable function.

My engine is a KNOWN Metro swap so I hesitate to show you my routing. You might make the same mistake I did.

For 4 years I had the **** in the factory OFF position....recently moved it (don't need much heat here in Fla) .... funny.....I'm not getting blasted with hot air anymore.

duh.....why not VERIFY despite trusting......

now how that impacts the cooling given the heater core is no longer in the loop???..... case pending this unit .....

If you do the 180 deg twist there's not a cable clamp on that side of the valve, unless you have some sort of extra linkage or a different valve. I have this one.

I do appreciate all the good feedback. Mine was converted to a mid 80's Metro 1275 prior to my purchasing it. The choke is not connected to the weber set-up (I would have noticed)

Neither pull **** has much tension on it, so I guess what I need to do is try to follow the cable into the engine compartment and see where (or if) it terminates.

On the right hand drive model then the right **** should be the heat control with in being heat / water flow engaged?

Where should I be looking for the valve on the engine that controls this water flow?

Many Thanks, Steve.in.Roanoke
