Free Classic Mini...
The cops showed up and there were lots of them all around. Good to know they were there. I was out in the MINI when I saw them and was pretty sure they were coming for me. So I stopped and talked to one of them. They were driving around looking for the guy. They asked if it was a kid and I said, "No... probably 20's-30's and he was well over 6 ft tall and big." I described the color of his shirt and his hat and then he got a call that they had a kid on a bike that they had pulled over. I was asked if I could identify the guy if I saw him. So I got in the big police truck and we went to go see the "kid" that they pulled over. The "kid" was like 13 or 14 and although he had a lighter blue t-shirt on he had a dark blue visor and not a khaki colored baseball hat. When I saw that kid "surrounded" I just said, "Oh My GOD! 100% NOT him! Somebody go give that kid a hug and tell hime everything's ok!".
I drove around and looked for the guy but never found him. He disappeared into thin air. The cops were all driving around but we couldn't find anything.
Then I came back to my house and sat in my driveway facing out. The car was on and the doors were locked and I had a camera. I was waiting for that *****' to come back!

YES, the hacking cough showed up tuesday morning and it's like a visitor what won't leave!
Even prescription cough medicine hasn't work!
it's lucky i like my grandson or i would be angry at him. but I think next time he visits for the weekend I will be taking "airborne" before he gets here!

I love it...but there's definitely days where I wish it was easier for me to take part in some of the MINI activities in the lower-48.
It wouldn't be such a problem if I didn't have two things holding me back: work, and a lack of money to get my car down there.

Count me in the group of "Remote-ly Challenged"!!
RG and I are the closest together, AK I was in Anchorage 2 years ago, that's the closest I've gotten to you.
A trip out East would be FUN...BUT one heck of a Long A** Drive!!
I can do 10hr. days no problem, but...like how far is it anyway??!!

RJ, I'm doing a coast to coast trip and figured I can do it with 6 days of 8 hour drives. That would give me some goof off time in certain places and make the drive fairly reasonable.
If you're doing 12 hour days, you can cut 2 days off that ... Power driving with someone, where you don't stop at all? I'd say 3 days of round the clock with maybe one power nap...
Gem, I had that hacking cough to where I felt like there was a stone crushing my chest and it HURT to cough (I was actually afraid I was going to crack a rib). I can usually get rid of these bugs with my herbs and teas, but I ended up calling the doctor. He couldn't see me, but sent my pharmacy some prescriptions... I think he over did it as he gave me a pulmicort inhaler, prednisone and psueodephedrine. All I took was one of the pseudoephedrine and my chest feels SOOOOO much better. It did give me the jitters though.
The teas & tinctures I was drinking/taking work the same way that the pseudoephedrine does, in fact, I told his nurse exactly what I was using and why... which is probably why he prescribed the pseudoephedrine... what bums me out is that a number of years ago, I could get ephedra tea (which is the natural herb form of pseudoephedrine), but the FDA took it off the market in a sweeping ban, because some idiots were taking it in capsule form as a diet aid and two keeled over.
Drives me crazy that this fabulous herb gets banned because of some idiots who failed the Darwin Tests...
(end rant)
Feel better soon Gem! Remember, call your doc and drink plenty of liquids, and hot teas (the heat from the tea helps open things up) and stand in a hot shower (same thing). XOX

I am feeling much better though, I went through my medicine cabinet and found some cough meds and some pills, don't know what it is but i'm good at marking the lables on what it was prescribed for and so later on when i have the same symptoms i look through my cabinet.
went to bed the last 2 night at like 9pm and woke today feeling pretty good.
I'm happy about that because every year we have a Labor day party of around 70 people, and I didn't want to be sick entertaining 70 people. BTW anyone in the area - stop by!!!
Thanks...just got back...clean bill of health and no charge.. a happy day!
Guess I'll have to go get her a bottle of bubbly, of course she won't get any, but I'll share it with my navigator!
Happy Anniversary Sika and Hilla- so glad you gave Hilla a bath (rain or not) and she's got a good bill of health. I don't think she minds not having bubbly as she just got oiled and lubed...
Gem, box teas you can find in most grocery stores, but especially in places like Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck). For medicinal teas, I usually buy the Traditional Medicinals.
As for a book... to the best of my knowledge there are none out there as this is considered alternative approaches- and there are legal implications there-in. I learned about herbs by first being a gardener with my grandmother, and remembering that she used certain things in teas or baths to help when we didn't feel well (she may have even made tinctures, but I don't remember), then I started reading up on the food herbs I was growing and found that many of them also have medicinal properties. From there, I started looking into wild foods, natural healing, Native and Traditional uses for things- in some cases, I found references to herbs, routes, poultices, tinctures and healing methods in stories, books, historical accounts (i.e., I found them totally by accident)- even references in religious texts and paintings (I studied art history in college and had to have a base understanding of different religions). Long story short, before I became pregnant with the twins, I actually studied herbal medicine from a European trained AND Native American trained herbalist in my area. It was a 3 month overview course, and I learned enough to know what to look for and to ask about... In other words, I learned that when I was researching what would help for what ailment, to also look at counterindications (i.e., the downsides of said herb, or side effects) and I learned that I didn't know enough to hang a shingle but I did know enough to ask the appropriate questions.
So now, unless it's something I've been using as part of my personal "arsenal," I usually diagnose (either myself if it's simple or by a doctor) what I've got/kid's got, try to figure out WHY I or kid has it (so I just don't put a band-aid on the problem and not get to the underlying cause) and then reference at least 3 sources for suggestions on what to do... Those sources, FOR ME, are often: a good source book, my herbalist friend, my chiropractor, webMD or similarly well respected internet source, an MD who is also a naturopath, and then, if it's something with my kids, I go to their doctor and say: "because we (doc and I) think the kid has xyz, I am going to do the following" and then list my choices of herbs (either in tea or tincture form and why I chose tea or tincture), body work, etc. Often the doc will agree with me and tell me to go with it, but if kid doesn't get better to come back and we'll try something else. He knows I'm going to come back if the kid isn't better in the appropriate time or gets worse/shows other symptoms, so he's not worried that he's let some crackpot out on the world. Plus, he gets to understand a bit more about what the herbs are used for and why.
GEM... now that you've read all that... what I meant when I said drink tea, was that you need to drink a hot liquid (preferably NOT dairy based) to help loosen up your chest congestion. It's the STEAM from the hot liquid that does most of the good... like taking a hot shower or putting warm compresses on your chest. If you can find a specific herb that would help you, GREAT... it'll only work even better. For example, I find that drinking licorice tea or teas with licorice in them, really help loosen all that junk in my chest ~ but a lot of people HATE the taste of licorice or can't do licorice as it makes your heart beat faster... I love to take hot epsom salt baths and soak ginger root in a sock so that I can put that on my chest while I'm laying in the bath tub... some people find they can't handle the ginger route as it makes their skin itch or tingle... so you see, ya gotta just experiment...
Hope you feel better

and last but not least--- my Gemmy Gril!!
So I have met SIX people!!! 6!!!
AKindmini,, hang in there!~! Soon I am sure an opportunity will arise for some of us to meet up with youk, RJ and Rg.... I was just thinking about this today-- of how I could meet some of the west coasters and the one waaay up north!
Gem, have fun with your party, Sika and Hilla--- Happy Anniversary?? How many miles on her?
To all of you others, I love you all but I don't have the energy to reread and think of witty replies... this week kicked my butt--- the week following a vacation is always brutal. ( but I love what I do!) In fact I actually have agreed to see an older couple on Sunday-- I mean what the heck was I thinking???? LOL It's hard being your own boss.
Ola, you okay over there?
TN - yes I did read the whole thing and thanks for explaining. I guess it would have helped growing up with a grandmother that was into all the historical healing, my grandmother spoke no English only Italian so when we were sick in our house, eat more pasta!!! monja!!!
Hey Cab, hi - we are never on at the same time...
sorry your week was so tough, but well worth seeing your kids and having such a great time...
oh and you were right, hubby has been having tests done on his shoulder (yes from the conversation while waiting for TN) still in major pain. He had an MRI and has 2 herniated disks which are pinching nerves. Looks like surgery coming soon. Will find out next week when we talk to the surgeon for a date!
