Dear Ola,
I lost two of my kitties this summer, one to kidney issues, one to liver disease. Both came on suddenly, and we thought we'd be able to pull one of them out of it but had to put the other down. The first one died the night we put the other one down.
You were blessed to have all that extra time with Josie. I'm sorry she's leaving you now, but she stayed and loved you for so long.
(((((((((HUGS))))))))))
and I mean that.

Since last night my cat Josie has been in a bad place... but really bad tonight. Remember when she was supposed to die last September? We were told to spend the weekend with her. Well, we got to keep her for Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's and on. Just about a week ago... we were talking about how crazy it was that we still had her. I've been able to spend lots of time with her and in recent months she's been more loving than she's been in most of her life.

In the past few days I noticed that she didn't want her canned food at night. I figured that I must keep picking the wrong flavor. Anyway... that's not the problem. She is dying.

I gave her a couple of doses of antibiotics tonight and also some Sub-Q's last night and tonight. Kind of a last ditch effort to do "something". I know her kidneys are gone and I feel glad that we were able to keep her around for such a long period of time. But it's still pretty sad. I don't think she will be alive tomorrow. If she is... I will probably have to take her to the Vet and put her to sleep.

She's resting comfortably on a heating pad near the water. She tries to stand but she can't... she doesn't have the strength.

*Geez Cab- Sorry for my bummer story. I didn't know anyone was on. I'm glad you had fun with your grandkids.

'Ola Think of how much you've given Josie. And considering how loving she's been since "that weekend," it sounds like she understands her "second chance" and how much ya'll love her.

GEM and CAB -- Executive Decision time! Dinner at 7, and let's go to KoP (I can handle traffic - hell, if I can handle D.C. traffic on a fairly constant basis, I can handle that!) We can do Chilis if you like - or if someone has a better restaurant choice (a delish dive? phabulous pub? Classy cafe?) , I'm open to suggestions. If no suggestions are forthcoming, Chilis it is!

I have to go out of town for a wedding this weekend, so I may not be able to check email!

Ola, good thoughts for you and Josie are coming your way. I know how hard it is to lose a pet, they are more than just a pet. They're our family. We do more than let them into our lives when we bring a pet home. We let them into our hearts. I can see that yours is filled with love for her. She knows that. You've been a good Mama. I really feel your pain today, but it's like you said. You got an extra year of time with her. You got time to really show her how much you love her, and that is a blessing. I hope that she passes in peace and without pain. I already know that she is aware of how much she is loved. *big hugs*

Thanks for the compliments on Mugen's pic everyone. He's a keeper, that's for sure. He got stung by a bee this morning which is pre-empting my ability to get on with my day while I wait a little while longer to make darned sure that he's not allergic.

So far, no signs of an allergic reaction, which is great!

OMG. when my pup was a little under 6 months she ate a bee, her nose swelled up so big, that her black button nose was on the side of her snout! Oh course i rushed her to the vet and they gave her 9 benedryl. it knocked her out for about 5 minutes. swelling went down in about a day and she was good as gold again!

Thank you to all my Freebie Friends for the support and virtual hugs... meansalot.

I stayed up with Josie until about 5:30 this morning. I couldn't believe she made it through the night. I was hopeful that she would just quietly pass in her sleep... but she didn't. I have set up the appointment for 5:45 tonight.

I know that you guys understand and I appreciate the sharing of stories. I think the worst part is the "should I do it" or "shouldn't I"? Something we all feel. Around 8:30 this morning she was walking around ... and that's when that doubt sets in.

So you guys are going to meet at that same Chili's? Someone's going to start thinking it's a MINI Rally! I think this means that you will all have surpassed my Freebie Meeter Contest! Who's ahead now?

Big big hugs Ola...
And don't forget, our loved ones often rally before they go. I think it's their way of letting us remember them in a positive way-
Love her and feel our thoughts for you- we're with you, standing in a circle around you, rubbing your shoulders. Our energy is yours.

OMG what these animals do to US!! Sadie was bit by something about 3yrs. ago and looked like Jekyl & Hyde (I'm serious) only one side of her face swelled up. Rushed her to the Vet they kept her all day or a day and a half I can't remember.

Rosie got a Fish Hook caught in her Right Cheek area (went clean through), found at night, so she was taken to Dove Lewis Animal Hospital, they had to put her under in order to get the hook out.

There isn't anything I wouldn't do for these two...even when we tell them that NO body else would want them!!

Speaking of our pets, my princess Thistle has a grass allergy - every summer after a couple of mowings she starts stratching and doesn't stop until the first frost. I have heard this is common in Labs. My poor little girl is so bad this year, I have to call the vet tomorrow for a 3 kind of meds for her the first 2 have not worked and now her nose is raw from scratching while we are not home. Poor thing is so uncomfortable I can't stand see her like this.

"...even when we tell them that NO body else would want them!!" We found the reason no one else would want them tonight when we got home from dinner. Rosie had chewed the stuffing out of her bed...we would move their beds into the Living Room in the mornings before we leave for work. Got home from work tonight and everything was fine...get home tonight from dinner and we have a barrage of stuffing laying all over the Living Room Floor...someone has some splainin' to do??!!

Ugh, Gem-- I have an allergy of sorts that makes my upper right arm itch and it drives me mad at times... I feel for Thistle-- what an ironic name for an allergic dog.....

Yep!! What in the heck gets into them?? I mean, can you imagine if one of us stayed home for the day while our spouses were at work?? And the spouse comes home to see his mattress all chewed up in shreds around the bedroom???

RJ- Your story reminds me...

One of the times when my mom was watching our pooch Jackie for us... she said that she came in and Jackie looked really weird...she didn't know why... but it seemed as though everything around her was white.

Before we left for our trip I hadn't had enough time to wash the cover for her "bed"... so I just had the cushion part with the thin covering. There was a small hole in the middle of it. I know that sometimes she likes to dig and she also likes to twirl around a bunch of times before she gets comfy.

So as my mom got closer to her... she realized that not only had Jackie pulled out some of the cushion stuffing... she had actually crawled INTO the little hole and spun around INSIDE and then she just stuck her head back out. Apparently she was quite comfy. Perhaps pretending that she was taking a bubble bath?

I wish she'd had a camera!

It's called separation anxiety.

If you find your dog destroying things while you're gone, it's most likely a result of the fact that you left. Try leaving the TV on or a talk radio station on somewhere in the house while you're gone for starters and see if this helps.

If not, there are lots of things you can do, but IMO, the best is crate training. Teach your dog to love the crate and that it is a safe place for him to be while you're not at home and they will go into it on their own. At first, I had to close the door with Reilly, but eventually he got to a place where I could leave the door open all the time and he would go in there and stay there whenever he got scared or whenever I would leave, and he stopped getting into the trash. They use it like a dog house, in the house, and if you ever have to fly with your dog, you already have a shipping crate handy for the purpose.

So worth it.

Oh and Ola... *big, big hugs*

When I was much much younger my Mom had gotten a Chow Puppy from a Pet Store (I know...I know), well "Tong" (Chinese for Bear) was a tiny thing and Mom thoguht she'd keep him in the kitchen while we were out of the house. She left a feathered pillow on the kitchen floor for Tong to sleep on...well coming home to find a White Chow that should have been RED was quite FUNNY!! Gem hope you don't mind if I borrow this one.

I know what people think about Chow's but honestly he was MY Best Buddy for many years. He and I had gone for a walk one evening and he had some how gotten into a Cactus (AZ), well it took many years before I could get out the last quill that had gotten stuck in his nose, but he let me pull it out.

What would you do if you found a Very Fluffy White Dog alseep in a Basket of Clean Towels on your back patio?? You'd take him in...call him Tramp...and Love him for ever and ever...that's what I did with MY other Dog Tramp!!

Both Tong and Tramp are in Dog Heaven...have been for a number of years, and still Best Buds I'm sure!!

RJ, chow chows are actually a really wonderful dog. They get their bad reputation because most people just don't understand how to give them proper direction. We had a guy that used to walk his into the video store that I worked at right after closing and it was part of his daily routine with her. She was a very quiet, very reserved dog, but extremely devoted to her owner. She was the sort of dog that you knew would give her life for that man with just one look at her.

I'm not a good person to have a chow chow, but there are a lot of people out there who are. Sounds like you were the right person at the right time for yours.

Okay I am seriously done with the dog anecdotes now. Sorry guys, I have lots of those anecdotes. Dogs are about as huge a part of my life as my MINI.

RG we took our Girls out of their crates due to skin conditions, they are much happier out of them and I don't mind a bed being torn up once in a while. They've not hurt the furniture, ok well, have not destroyed the furniture. The couch pillows are found on the floor most days, but not chewed on. I understand seperation anxiety, but I don't think it's an issue with Rosey. She's always liked to play with her bed, scrunching it up and playing with it like its a ball or a toy.

We've just decided that they won't be having beds out of the bedroom on the days we go to work. We'll replace Rosey's bed next weekend when we have plans to go to Ikea. Which is where we bought the beds in the first place.
