Mini passes several cars, sport bikes and... a bus?? The Nürburgring track must be like 12 miles long - looks like a real hoot.

One day... one day.

Pretty impressive.

I wonder how hard on the brakes those laps are.

We got a similar modded VTEC classic mini at autocross last weekend and on a 30 second course it was about the same as new MINI 2 MCS.

I like that driver in the knit hat. He's so funny. Little or no dialog, all action.

The host would do better if she would stop talking and concentrate on driving.

There are many videos of Sabine Schmidt and she talks nonstop on every one of them. Here she is on one of the memorable episodes of Top Gear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg4a1rc4Xjk

Oh - Matt... check out the superfastminis website - the D series Honda setup will end up being (I think) plenty for a Mini, and you can pick up one of the D series engines for a lot less than you can a B or a K series Honda lump. My goal is to do one and do it on 10" wheels. I may end up spending some cash ($1300-1500 at my last check) for the 3.47 final drive conversion, but it'd depend on which engine & tranny I got. I think the D series would be sweet - chuck it in my MK 1 Cooper S body and call it the Heretic.

The driver could have taken several minutes off his lap time if he hadn't had a bucket full of keys swinging from the steering column to distract him

Well then she's just playing around for the camera.

Like Victor Borge on the piano.

The video didn't look serious. What do you expect for youtube?

Entertainment 8
Serious driving 5

One of my favorites was when she was with Jeremy Clarkson in a Jaguar Diesel... "Faster faster! You can go much faster here!" hahahaha.

Speaking of which - "Top Gear" is back in the USA! It's on BBC America. Yay!

Found a little clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B0iD962Lzc

She's run an 8:19 on the 'Ring, so I would say that she's a very capable driver.

(edit) here we go - here's the Jag diesel episode

Only partly so... it just seems to be her personality and it is pretty consistent across different videos. Here she is driving passengers in the Ring Taxi: http://www.jwhubbers.nl/ring/joerund/legends.php

Her biography says she has done 20,000 laps on the Nurburgring, with an additional 1,200 more laps each year.

My favorite Top Gear episode is when Sabine Schmitz tried to beat Clarkson's Diesel Jag time in a Ford Transit commercial van (and almost did it).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg4a1...related&search=

Here's the German version of Top Gear (D-Motor) where Sabine (in a new MCS and Porsche) races Achim in his VTec powered "Ringmini". This dude Achim makes "the Stig" look like a little pansey...Helmet? We don't need no stinking helmet!
http://www.forumeter.com/video/26924...sche-Carrera-S

Achim also builds and drives the GixxerKart with a GSX-R 1100 motor. Here's Sabine getting schooled while driving a Comp Prepped Viper:

20 years ago my German/American Mustang club used to hit the Rings Nordschleife a half dozen times a year. I've driven maybe 60 laps in a 84 Mustang SVO and another 10 recently in a modified 05 Vette. I'm really looking forward to throwing the Mini around the Green Hell next Spring.
