Look what was hidden in the barn!!!!
A NY man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely, so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal. The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15yrs; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs. The house was sold to pay taxes. There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway – so….. nobody made an offer on the place. The NY guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth, moved in, and set about to tear-in to the barn.......curiosity was killing him. So, he and his wife bought a generator, and a couple of grinders..... and cut thru the welded doors.

According to Snopes, the collection belongs to a life-long collector. Check out the linked article - often the truth of things like this and the process of them becoming an urban legend is equally facinating (if not more so) than the fake story that results.

No, no, no... I know a guy whose sister actually knows this guy... it's all true... I am actually trying to buy one of those cars right now, but the guy is a very private person so I can't discuss who he is, or even which car we are negotiating..
Why do people keep posting this stuff. This exact same urban legend was posted in a thread a year ago by Wagnbat.
I always wondered why people actually sent money to the Internet scammers but I guess I know why now.
PT Barnum was right

It's posted because it's a neat story..... And some people might get a kick out of it...like me for example. I heard it for the first time on another board a few days ago...and was glad that I chose to click on it. After all, I didn't have to read it...or respond to it.
Just like Christmas...some will say that there is no Santa Claus...but somebody has been putting cool stuff under the tree with my name on it every year. So as long as I'm getting cool stuff...who cares if there's a fat man in a red suit... I'm mean after all... that's one of the oldest legends in the book.
Twas the night before Christmas...and all through the house.....
I can't get enough of that story.

BTW, the Internet scam thing was not directed to you at all but rather the concept that lots of people are simply gullible. Maybe they want to believe ... whatever

Yeah, but while Snopes is checking all these urban legends for accuracy, who is checking Snopes for accuracy?
I've seen instances where thier "experts" who debunked the myth were no more reliable than the starter of the myth. All in all, just take what you read on the iternet with a grain of salt and get on with life.
