Insurance Costs of a Classic?

What are you all paying for your insurance premium on your classic compared to your daily driver. I really want a classic, and could probably afford it, as long as the insurance on it isn't outrageous like it is on my MINI.

The '80 Mini is classified as a antique/show car by Hagerty, the insurer. The premium is about $170/year. The '02 MINI is $800/year. Be ware though that Hagerty is very strict on usage (not a daily driver) and storage (i.e garage kept) of their insured vehivcles, hence the low rates. I'm sure age (mine and the car's) as well as locale factor into. As info, when I signed up, they called me and questioned me on any mods the car had seen (i.e. stage 1-3 tuning , engine size, carbs, etc.)

i have my '74 insured as a regular car through allstate- no restrictions on usage, storage, etc,etc - the car is insured as a 1974 Austin Gt - whatever that is - VINs from Minis do not have enough digits to be found in the insurance company's system, so an Austin GT is the closest thing.

costs me $175 for 6 months - other people's rates might be a little lower - i am a 23 year old male so my rates by default are higher - i prefer this method because the insurance company doesnt care how much i drive it, any mods i do or any of that jazz that hagerty insurance seems to pay such close attention to

and when im not driving it, (ie winter months) i just take it off insurance and into suspension and it costs me like $7.54 for 6 months

I pay about $150 every 6 months for mine through State Farm. That is after discounts I get for multi car, multi line, etc. State farm calls it a BMW.

Mine is registered as a regular car and I simply added it to my Progressive insurance with the 03 and the Subaru. I'm paying $90 every 6 months for liability only for the Mini.

Here's how our company qualifies antiques/classics:

1) Must be 25 years old or older.
2) Must be restored to it's original condition or very close
3) Must not be used as a commute vehicle and it's primary use is in shows, parades, etc.

Cars that qualify as an antique/classic get a greatly reduced premium... normally around $80 every six months, depedent upon the value assigned and the coverages selected, of course.
