Hi!

I am new to the forum and new to the World of Mini...I am obessed and can't wait to get one. This may sound like a stupid question, but I've been looking on ebay and some used are pretty close to the new car price. Would anyone recommend ebay or should I jon the group of waiters? I, too, was told last week, by Patrick that I'd have a two month wait for a Mini.

Then do I buy the base Mini or the Mini S? I drive about 100 miles a day on the toll road. No kids...usually one passenger and I'm a girlie girl who is 30.

You input would be so helpful. Thanks!!

Girly Girl has absolutely nothing to do with your choice of model. If you must drive 100 miles per day make the most of it and get it over with by motoring with the "S".

My wife and daughter both like the "S" and the driver interaction with the 6 speed.

Grab the swizzle stick six speed and mix yourself a road cocktail with a twistie.

Motor on!

Welcome to the tribe "S"leslie.

I think your name indicates just what kind of vehicle the well dressed "girlie girl" is wearing this spring. Get a new S, wait out your 6 - 8 weeks on NAM and join the Tribe of MINI lovers.

I drive my cooper s about 90 miles a day, portions of it on a toll road. They are actually a pretty good commuter if you don't mind the fairly stiff ride. And the S exhaust drones a bit over 75. I was going to do the "wait" for a new one also .But after selling my old car, sitting at work waiting for a ride I went on autotrader.com and found a year old S with sport/premium and leather with 15k for $20k. I bought it the next morning, the rest is history. Good deals do exist.

Thank you, both for responding.

I have probably spent a good 24 total hours looking at all of the combinations

available with the Cooper. I get "on" something and I'm consumed. I just want my

decision to be the right one.

Don't we all?

I'd highly recommend test driving both and then making your decision based on that experience and what you can afford. Both are very competent cars. The biggest difference between Cooper and the Cooper S is acceleration between 35-65mph (something you would notice on the highway more than city driving). In town both feel about the same in terms of acceleration. Actually a Cooper equipped with SS+ could theoretically out handle a Cooper S due to the 200+ weight difference. That being said if you are looking at the Cooper I'd recommend considering waiting for the 2005 models (August/September) with the new Getrag transmissions, new front/rear facia and new lights. Most people will push you towards an S. However if you aren't going to be racing, the cooper will suit you just fine. It gets good gas mileage, and still has the get up and go that a mini is common to.

BTW if you're looking for something right away I know that Knauz MINI has at least 5-6 MCS's and quite a few Cooper available currently.

I got my car off ebay and had no regrets. It had some minor modifications to the suspension that I wanted to buy anyway and I paid under MSRP for a car with about 1000 miles on it. But with a car that's so individual, it might be hard to find the right color combination.
